We are sadden to share this news on behalf of Sharlene. Our condolences to the Oslund family. Ralph was the epitome of a Rotarian. He will be missed by many.

Ralph James Keith Oslund
February 7, 1932 – May 24, 2026

Ralph Oslund, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on May 24, 2026, at the age of 94.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sharlene, and by his children Bonnie (Kelvin), Cheryl (Rob), LeAnne (Mehzad), and Brent (Jodi). He was predeceased by his son Darren in 2021. He is also survived by his grandchildren—Matt, Alec, Erin, Steven, Spencer, Jenna, Sydney, and James—and his great grandchildren McKenzie, Jayce, and Coen.

Born in Cereal, Alberta, Ralph moved to the Okanagan Valley as a child. In 1955, he began working in the Alberta oil patch, and in 1957 he married Sharlene. The couple lived in Drayton Valley and later Regina, where Ralph worked for Birks Jewellers as the assistant manager.

In 1963, Ralph declined a promotion with Birks to their head office in Montreal after realizing that accepting it would likely mean never returning to the Okanagan Valley, where his heart was. In 1965, he and Sharlene settled in Penticton, where they opened Ralph Oslund Jewellers, a business they operated for 57 years.

Ralph was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Penticton for 54 years and enjoyed participating in the Rotary International Student Program. He was also one of the founding members of the “Knowledge Network” downtown coffee group.

In 2022, Ralph and Sharlene moved to Nanaimo to be closer to family.

If so wished, and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Penticton Regional Hospital in Ralph’s memory. South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation

A private family gathering will take place.

Having fun and supporting a great cause !

Rotary Club of Penticton is proud to support Mcdonalds Mchappy Day.

McHappy Day is an annual fundraising event organized by McDonald’s Canada to support and local children’s charities. Since launching in 1977, the campaign has raised more than $111 million across Canada, including a record $11.3 million in 2025 alone. Funds are collected through food purchases, donations, and community participation at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide.

The money raised helps families with sick or injured children stay close to hospitals by funding Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Rooms across Canada. These programs provide accommodations, meals, and emotional support, helping reduce financial and emotional stress for families during medical treatment.

Good on ya Mcdonalds!

Rotary Projects Latvia:

The monthly soup kitchen at Saint Saviour’s Anglican Church has been a mainstay in Latvia’s capital since 2001. For the past several years, the Rotaract Club of Riga International and, more recently, its sponsor Rotary club have supported the initiative, which serves as many as 60 visitors per session.

“One shift prepares large pots of soup, porridge, and warm tea while another welcomes and serves guests when they arrive,” says Kim Leandersson, a past president of the Rotary Club of Riga International.

“Ingredients are planned and purchased by our members, with our club covering the modest costs and occasional donated products from bakeries adding something extra.

It’s regular, hands-on service where you see the impact immediately. Cooking, serving, and sharing a meal may sound small, but for many of our guests it means warmth, dignity, and being seen.”

Rotary Projects Mexico:

Within hours of deadly floods and landslides that struck Mexico in October, Rotary members were responding. In hard-hit Poza Rica, Rotary and Rotaract members brought residents to safety, plowed mud-laden streets, and moved house to house to clean properties.

The effort was supported by clubs throughout District 4185 and by neighboring districts and others abroad.

The Rotary Club of Poza Rica joined the nonprofit Planet Water Foundation to install four water towers and a water block in the neediest area and deliver purified water elsewhere. The club also coordinated with World Central Kitchen to provide hot meals.

The Rotary Club of Penticton meets every Wednesday at 11:45am at the Rusty Anchor restaurant at 293A Marina Way in Penticton. Guests are always welcome.

Rotary build relationships with families to help eradicate Polio.

Building on Rotary's work with the global health community and its GPEI partners, Rotary members in Pakistan build relationships with families that are focused on health care. As part of their commitment to eradicate polio, Rotary clubs sponsor health camps, fund permanent immunizations centers, organize religious leaders to support vaccinations, and train female health workers who visit families regularly.

Because Rotary members live in the communities they serve, these relationships allow the work to continue amid the challenges of the campaign.

Rotary is an international community that brings together leaders who step up to take on the world’s toughest challenges, locally and globally. The eradication of polio is one of our longest standing and most significant efforts.

Along with our partners, we have helped immunize more than 3 billion children against polio in 122 countries. We have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide and we won't stop until we end the disease for good.
