This was a wonderful event to take part in and to help support the collaboration efforts of all the amazing organizations in Renfrew County.

On June 2, more than 70 community leaders from across Renfrew County gathered for the 3rd Annual Community Leadership Exchange, a collaborative forum focused on strengthening community well-being through partnership, innovation, and collective action.

Collaboratively organized by Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce, Algonquin College - Pembroke Campus, Invest Renfrew County, and Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, the event brought together representatives from healthcare, housing, education, transportation, economic development, social services, and municipal government to identify shared priorities and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Discussions across nine facilitated tables pointed to four closely connected priorities: → Affordability → Healthcare access → Transportation → Housing
These priorities will guide future collaborative efforts and inform strategies that support the long-term well-being of Renfrew County communities.

A summary of the discussion, emerging priorities, and identified actions is now available: https://upperottawavalleychamber.com/community-leadership-exchange/

Don't miss your chance to nominate some for the Culture Connector Award.

This award recognizes the individuals, organizations, and groups who help newcomers, immigrants, refugees, displaced individuals, and international students feel welcomed, supported, and connected in the Ottawa Valley.

For many people arriving in a new community, it’s often the small acts of kindness that stay with them most, someone offering guidance, sharing a meal, helping navigate unfamiliar systems, introducing them to neighbours, or simply making space for them to feel like they belong.

The Culture Connector Award exists to celebrate those moments and the people behind them.
Nominations may be submitted by newcomers, immigrants, refugees, international students, or anyone who has witnessed someone making a meaningful difference in the life of a newcomer.
Recipients will be selected from both Lanark and Renfrew Counties and recognized during a Culture Connector Award Ceremony later this year.

We encourage you to nominate someone who:
• Welcomes others with openness and respect
• Helps bridge cultural understanding
• Connects people to community, opportunity, and belonging
• Offers friendship, encouragement, and care
• Helps make the Ottawa Valley feel like home

Nomination deadline: June 1, 2026

Thank you for helping us recognize the people who quietly and consistently strengthen our communities through compassion, connection, and hospitality.
Nomination forms are available through the link below:

Great reminder from OFA, it is that time of year when farmers are back out on the roads.
Know the slow-moving vehicle sign: The orange triangle indicates a vehicle travelling 40 km/hour or less.
Slow down early: Closing speeds are faster than they appear, so reduce speed as soon as you spot farm equipment.
Watch for signals: Farm equipment may need extra space to turn or swing wide.
Only pass when it is legal, safe, and you have a clear line of sight.
Be patient and respectful. Let's all work together so everyone gets home safely.
