Wear orange and be part of a powerful show of community unity.
Líl̓wat Nation is inviting neighbouring communities to come together in orange shirts to form a giant heart in recognition of reconciliation and Pipi7íyekw (Joffre Lakes).

The goal is to gather at least 500 people, representing the roughly 500 visitors Pipi7íyekw receives each day, and create a visual representation of what the footprint of 500 people actually looks like on the land.

The group photo will be part of Líl̓wat Nation’s campaign and an opportunity for neighbouring communities to stand together in support of respect, reflection and care for Pipi7íyekw.

🤔Can you vote in the 2026 General Local Election?
✅You may be eligible to vote as either a resident elector or a non-resident property elector.

Eligible voters must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on General Voting Day and have lived in B.C. for at least six months before registering to vote. Additional requirements apply to non-resident property electors. These same provincial eligibility requirements apply to eligible voters living on reserve within the SLRD.

The SLRD uses same-day voter registration, so eligible voters register at the time of voting.

The BC Wildfire Service will be assisting N’Quatqua and the Sea to Sky Natural Resource District with a 5.6-hectare prescribed burn approximately two kilometres east of D’Arcy.

The burn could begin as early as September 16, depending on weather and site conditions. Smoke may be visible from D’Arcy, Devine, Birken and surrounding areas.

Elections 101 - Are you a non-resident property elector?

If you own property in an SLRD Electoral Area where you do not live, you may be eligible to vote in that Electoral Area as a non-resident property elector.

Eligibility requirements include being a Canadian citizen, being at least 18 years old, having been a B.C. resident for at least six months and having owned the property for at least 30 days before registering to vote.

Electoral Area D - Please be advised of an overnight closure of the Paradise Valley Bridge near District of Squamish.

The bridge will be closed to all public access from 10 p.m. on Friday, September 11 until 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, while Dorosh Construction conducts work at the bridge.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the closure. The bridge can be reinstated for emergency vehicle access within 15 minutes of receiving a call.

Please plan ahead and avoid the bridge during the closure period.

✅Evacuation ALERT RESCINDED - Area B, Pear Lake wildfire (C40983)

Based on consultation with the BC Wildfire Service, the SLRD has assessed that potential danger to life and health due to the Pear Lake Wildfire C40983 has subsided to the degree that the current Evacuation Alert issued pursuant to Section 95 (1) of the BC Emergency and Disaster Management Act, is no longer required.

Effective September 8, 2026 the SLRD has rescinded the Evacuation Alert for the properties shown on the updated map. Residents should continue to stay informed and monitor BC Wildfire Service and SLRD updates as wildfire conditions can change. The SLRD is accepting nominations for Electoral Area Directors in areas A, B, C and D and for the School District trustee elections for Sea to Sky School District Trustee Electoral Area 4 (i.e. SLRD Electoral Area C), Sea to Sky School District Trustee Electoral Area 5 (i.e. SLRD Electoral Area D); Gold Trail School District’s Trustee Rural Area A (i.e. consisting of the Bridge River Valley and the Seton Portage areas.

✅Documents must be received by the SLRD Chief Election Officer by 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026. Find nomination packages, candidate eligibility requirements and resources for people considering elected office on the SLRD Elections Information Hub: SLRD.bc.ca/2026elections
