National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of colonialism, listen to Indigenous voices, and continue learning how we can do better.

As a fire service, we have a responsibility to be part of that work and to build stronger relationships with the communities we serve.

Over the past year, we’ve continued to work alongside Lil̓wat Nation through Indigenous artwork on our new fire engine, supporting cultural prescribed burns, and working together on wildfire preparedness, emergency response efforts, and protecting our communities.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn from one another and continue building a relationship based on respect, partnership, and understanding. 🧡

September 11 — We Remember

25 years ago, 343 FDNY firefighters lost their lives responding to the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The impact continued long after that day. Since 9/11, more than 400 FDNY members have died from illnesses linked to their work at Ground Zero and during the recovery efforts.

Today, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, both on September 11 and in the years that followed.

We remember their service, their families, and the lasting impact they left on the fire service.
