September 14th to 18th is officially Alberta Development Officers week in the Town of Peace River.

This week is dedicated to recognizing the work of our municipal colleagues in planning and improving our town. From navigating policy and bylaws to improving the quality of our communities, we honour their contributions.

Town flags will be lowered for Firefighters' National Memorial Day on September 13. This day is observed each year on the second Sunday of September in Canada and honours fallen firefighters.

The Governance & Priorities Committee met on Tuesday, September 8. Here are some highlights you should know:

🏠 Council is developing a Residential Development Incentive Framework to support new housing in Peace River
🚒 Peace River is hosting the Northern H.E.A.T. fire conference this week (Sept 9–12). Welcome to all the firefighters and vendors in town!
🧭 New wayfinding and tourism signage is being installed around town
📅 Changes are being proposed changes to community grant program to add a second intake period
🚗 14 aging fleet units sold at auction

📢 Join the Regional Assessment Review Board

The Regional Assessment Review Board (RARB) reviews assessment complaints and makes fair and impartial decisions in response. We're seeking two people to join this board.

The RARB hears complaints about property assessments within:
- Town of Peace River
- Northern Sunrise County
- Clear Hills County
- Village of Hines Creek
- Village of Nampa

Members are appointed for a 3-year term and may apply for reappointment.
Training hosted by the Alberta Land and Property Rights Tribunal is required and paid for by the Town of Peace River.

This week, firefighters from across the province are visiting Peace River for the 2026 Northern HEAT Fire Training Conference. Conference participants will have two days of hands-on training at the Peace River Fire Department’s training site in the West Hill industrial area. Residents should anticipate some smoke near the training grounds on September 9 and 10.
