This week we had the opportunity to share some of the great Massasauga Rattlesnake (Zhiishiigwe) conservation work we do on Wasauksing! This will be featured in an upcoming documentary about Massasaugas, so stay tuned for updates!

Have you seen a strange lifted dog house recently in the community and thought what’s that? It’s our first recently installed bat condo! This condo will hopefully provide safer roost habitat for bats and encourage bats that roost in roofs and siding in the community to switch spots, especially if they’re displaced. Stay tuned for events next summer aimed to see how many bats are using the condo! 🦇🦇

Happy World Snake Day! 🐍 Here on Wasauksing, we focus on protecting snake species that need our help. We do this primarily through targeted research, outreach and education. Snakes face a variety of threats including road mortality, habitat loss and intentional persecution. Regardless of your views of snakes, they deserve our respect for the important roles they play, both ecologically and culturally! 🐍

Turtle nesting season is coming to an end but some individuals are making the final push to lay their eggs! We are excited with the number of nests we protected this year and can’t wait to share the hatchlings with the community in a few short months! 🐢🐢
