Some changes to the Canada Day in Parksville parade route.

The Canada Day Parade starts at 10 am, from Shelly Road along Island Highway East and ending at Craig Street. The parade will not travel up Craig Street.

The Shriners’ Breakfast runs from 7:30–11 am on Craig Street, which will be closed from Middleton Avenue to the Island Highway.

New safety measures this year include:
Enhanced traffic control
Additional security
More barricades and signage
Extended first-aid service

Parade-goers are encouraged to:
Arrive early and stay a safe distance from the parade route
Bring chairs, water, snacks and dress for the weather
Keep children supervised and establish a family meeting place
Avoid sitting in intersections, on medians or traffic islands
Follow directions from traffic control personnel
Avoid interacting with parade vehicles, performers or animals
Stay aware of your surroundings before, during and after the event

There will be pedestrian-only access on Pioneer Crescent at the start of the parade with parade dispersal on Harrison Avenue.

A large Douglas fir in Parksville Community Park (near parking lot along Ravenhill Road) has died and will be modified to support local wildlife habitat. To preserve ecological value, the tree will be reduced to about six metres and retained as wildlife tree providing important habitat for birds, insects, and other species. In addition to Creative Kids summer art camps, Plein Air painting in wonderful locations throughout Oceanside, our incredible Farmers Market at the MAC Community Garden, with new art workshops.... whew! We are so very excited to welcome JOAN LARSON, CLAUDIA LOHMANN AND THE AMAZING GRANT LEIER Barton & Leier Gallery ! It's going to be an epic summer! Bring your visitors, friends, family - take an art class, visit the galleries, it's all happening, here at the MAC!

🌲PARKS, TRAILS AND GREEN SPACES DON’T TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES - Property taxes support maintenance of 100 hectares of parks and public spaces and 20 kms of trails enjoyed by residents. Parksville Community Park and amenities (playground, walkway, gathering plaza, volleyball courts, labyrinth, outdoor theatre, sports fields and courts), Springwood Park (sports fields and courts) and places like Foster Park and Memorial Plaza. Parks staff manage irrigation infrastructure, City’s urban forest, habitat restoration, invasive plant removal, and plant thousands of flowers annually.

🌳5.2% of the City’s annual budget or $3.90 per week per person is allocated to these services by 14 full-time and 2 part-time staff.

FROM POTHOLES TO PAVEMENT, YOUR TAXES ARE AT WORK - Property taxes support repairs and maintenance (including snow removal and de-icing) of 100 kms of roads, 60 kms of sidewalks, 80 kms of storm drainage infrastructure, and other transportation-related services to keep Parksville moving. The City’s fleet of 53 vehicles (all departments) are maintained by City staff. Assets include roads/drainage infrastructure, dump trucks with plows and sanders, street sweeper, backhoe, vacuum truck, versatile mower loader tractor, fleet vehicles, and more.
🚛4.4% or $3.30 per person per week of this year’s budget is allocated to services provided by a roads and drainage team of 11.

YOUR PROPERTY TAXES HAVE MANY JOBS - Taxes help support the everyday services that keep our community running - maintaining roads, caring for parks and helping deliver important local services. Four bylaw officers including chief bylaw officer provide such services as community safety, municipal bylaw enforcement (parking, animal control, noise, illegal dumping, unsightly properties) and respond to general inquiries.
