🌸 Welcome to May 🌸
Did you know the month of May is named after Maia, the Roman goddess of growth and renewal?
As nature comes alive and our landscapes turn green, it’s a powerful reminder that this is a time of new growth & increased fire risk, especially when it comes to dry grass and fields.
πŸ”₯ May is the start of grass fires!
Wind, dry vegetation, and outdoor activity can allow fires to spread quickly.
As we embrace everything May represents:
🌾 Avoid burning on dry or windy days
πŸ”₯ Keep campfires and burn piles small, attended, and fully extinguished
🚜 Be cautious with equipment as sparks from machinery can ignite grass
🚬 Dispose of smoking materials properly, never toss butts outdoors
🏑 Maintain defensible space by clearing dry grass and debris around structures

Fingers 🀞 crossed for a weather warm up this month!

Spring has definitely sprung here within the Tri Fire Services. πŸ”₯ 🌷... On tap this past weekend was a pump ops course and our recruits did their skills testing.

Our firefighters are super dedicated to continuous improvement of their skills. Thanks to all of our instructors, all in house by the way, and our volunteers for giving up their weekend to train or test. ❀️

During National Volunteer Week, we want to recognize and thank the dedicated individuals who step up whenever our community needs them most, our volunteer firefighters.

They balance family, careers, and everyday life, yet they answer the call at all hours to protect lives and property in our communities. Their commitment, courage, and selflessness embody the true spirit of service. Firefighters in the tri fire services are top notch.

To our Volunteer Firefighters: thank you for your time, your sacrifice, and your unwavering dedication to our community. We are proud of what we have accomplished together and we are stronger fire services because of you. πŸš’β€οΈ

🌧️ April Showers Bring May Flowers 🌷
Spring rain is great for our gardens, but heavy rainfall can also bring flooded basements.

πŸ”§ Rain Readiness Tips
βœ… Check your sump pump: Make sure it’s plugged in, working properly, and draining away from your foundation.
πŸ”‹ Test your backup power: A battery backup or generator can protect your basement during power outages.
πŸ‚ Clear storm drains & eaves: Leaves and debris can cause water to pool where you don’t want it.
πŸš— Slow down on wet roads: Watch for standing water and reduced visibility during spring storms.

🌱 While the rain continues to fall, April is a great time to start seeds indoors:
🌼 Zinnias – Fast-growing and bright
🌸 Marigolds – Hardy and great for garden beds
🌺 Cosmos – Tall, airy blooms that love spring moisture
🌻 Sunflowers – Start now for strong early growth
πŸ’ Sweet peas – Thrive in cool spring conditions
A little preparation now helps protect your home and sets you up for a colourful, flower-filled May!

🌼 What's your favourite flower to plant in your garden?
