NEWS: Residents across Bruce, Dufferin, Grey, and Wellington Counties are invited to share more feedback on the Regional Transit Study and share their thoughts on early findings of the study. The short survey, available until April 14, will help explore how to better connect and move residents across all four counties.

Transit needs are growing across rural communities in the region. Population growth, aging demographics, and rising costs are increasing demand for transportation options. The Regional Transit Study is assessing if a unified transit network is possible, with the goal of making travel easier for passengers, identifying efficiencies through collaboration, and expanding transit service to areas that currently have limited transportation options.

If the consumerism of the holiday season has left you feeling hollow, exhausted, or guilty… you’re not alone.

This month, CLO Kris Alexander explores how consumerism affects the way we build community and how we can reclaim more meaningful ways of expressing our love.

“As consumerism continues to rise, the damage to community is two-fold: we have less reason to get to know our neighbors, and service workers are expected to make money for their company rather than spend time with loved ones…

Despite being branded as ‘the most wonderful time of the year,’ holidays are often when service workers are treated the worst, absorbing the anger and frustration of customers over problems entirely beyond their control. The holiday season is meant to be a time of connection, generosity, and shared humanity, yet consumerism consistently undermines the deeper meaning of Christmas and other holidays.”

If you come across someone who is in need of temporary housing due to weather, this is how you can help. Assist the person by contacting #211 and asking for the temporary housing department. Please note that this process could take up to 2 hours to complete due to staffing levels.

Our officers were contacted on January 10th 2025 to assist an individual with finding temporary housing. Our officers stayed with the individual and on the phone with 211 for an extended period of time and were eventually able to secure a motel room and a taxi to get them there.

Note: due to call volume and high priority calls officers may not be able to facilitate these calls. #211 is available for anyone to use and police are not required to assist in this process.

Warming Centres:

- Port Elgin and Southampton Library during business hours
- Safe ‘N Sound (Owen Sound) If you would like to attend Safe ‘N Sound but do not have transportation please give us a call or flag down an officer.
