This coming Tuesday in Owen Sound... Let's show some solidarity...

"Since the release of the seminal report from the MMIWG National Inquiry, we have yet to see real, on-the-ground changes to end violence against First Nations women, girls, and gender-diverse people. AFN’s MMIWG Sector advocates for the full implementation both of the Inquiry’s 231 Calls for Justice, and the National Action Plan to End Violence Against Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People." April 28 - National Day of Mourning: The Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Electoral District Association of the New Democratic Party adds its voice to those kindred caring community voices that mark, with sadness, the 2026 Day of Mourning for workers who have been killed, injured or made unwell in the workplace.

We recognize and grieve over the loss of lives, of well-being, and of family and community integrity that workplace injuries and illnesses have imposed during this past year and all previous years.

At the same time, we recognize with joy and appreciation those in our community, province and nation who work tirelessly and daily to make our workplaces safe. Today’s heroes stand on the shoulders of those who have done this crucial work in the past, and today’s heroes are the shoulders on which future heroes will stand.

We hold it to be true that workers are not mere units of production, nor are we simply units of consumption. Workplace safety rests ultimately on a foundation of justice, fairness and compassion across our society.

A quarter of a century ago, Indigenous activist Gary Night Owl wrote, “Our ancestors taught us that every single member of our community is too valuable to forsake. We do not shoot our wounded.” His words mean much to all of us on this Day of Mourning because workers who have survived workplace trauma, and the families of those who have died or been injured, are owed our support as a matter of justice, not charity.

As a society, we can respect and honour the memory of those who have died by saving the lives of those still working in dangerous conditions, reducing injuries, providing adequate support for grieving families and those disabled, and charging employers and inspectors when they are negligent.

Update: it has come to our attention that, according to official vote records, Paul Vickers did not vote for this bill. Although we do feel that his refusal to vote against this bill while his colleagues secure a majority vote is equal to a vote in favour, we have removed the image from this post due to inaccuracy.

In the recent leadership campaign for the Federal NDP, five candidates stepped up to put their ideas forward. Every one of those running would have made a good leader, and every one had worthy ideas. They respected each other and held each other up. It was by far and away the most harmonious and worthy campaign I have ever witnessed!
On April 30th we are holding our Annual General Meeting for both the Provincial and Federal constituency associations of the Bruce Grey Owen Sound NDP. Just as the Federal NDP is going through a revitalization, refocusing process, locally our party is doing the same.
Candidate Tony McQuail has graciously accepted our invitation to speak at our AGM. A self-described Green Progressive, Tony has spent months criss-crossing the country along with the other leadership hopefuls. He hails from the Huron-Bruce riding to our immediate south. There are far more similarities than differences between our two constituencies. His promotion of Representation (a prop rep model), Regeneration (protecting the environment), Redistribution (a fairer economy for all) and Redesign (refocusing communities on sustainable housing, transportation and consumption) formed the bedrock of his campaign platform.
Our AGM will begin at 7PM on Thursday April 30th at the Harmony Centre in Owen Sound. All are welcome to attend, but only members can vote. With a credit card you can join or renew your membership at the door. Cash and/or cheques cannot be accepted. Party memberships start at only $5.00.
FOR MEMBERS ONLY
Tony has graciously offered to host a workshop on how to revitalize and build our constituency association. The workshop will begin at 6pm and all members are encouraged to attend. You may also attend if you are planning on joining or renewing your membership at the AGM following.

What if the person next to you is paying a different price for the same thing? An algorithm decided that. 🏷️💵

Watch to the end to find out how – then go to BanPredatoryPricing.ca and tell your MPP to vote YES
