Canada's federal government is making decisions that undermine refugee and migrant rights. That's why the message of CPJ's new book—that policy should centre lived experience and uphold our international obligations—is so crucial.

Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program is often described as a “triple-win” for origin countries, Canada, and migrant workers. But the story is often different when we listen to migrant workers themselves.

On September 15th, CPJ invites you to join an evening of discussion at the southwestern Ontario stop on the Renewed Canadian Welcome Book Tour. The event will feature Gabriel Allahdua, Dr. Vasanthi Vekatesh, and Rena Namago, and is supported by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership, and Chatham-Kent Public Library.

2SLGBTQIA+ people around the world are forced to flee violence, criminalization, and persecution simply because of who they are. And we often think of Canada as an automatic safe haven, but systemic gaps and our government’s policy decisions leave 2SLGBTQIA+ refugees feeling unsafe.

That's why we're partnering with Rainbow Haven for Everyone Deserves a Safe Home, a campaign to support our joint work in protecting the safety of 2SLGBTQIA+ people while they're fleeing persecution abroad, and upholding their rights as refugees when they arrive in Canada.
