Understanding yourself is often the first step toward finding the right support.

Psychometric assessments can help provide greater insight into cognitive functioning, learning differences, mental health concerns, personality and more.

These assessments aren't about labels; they're tools that help individuals, families and healthcare professionals make informed decisions and access appropriate supports.

If you've ever wondered whether an assessment might be helpful for you or someone you know, The Counselling Group here to help answer your questions.

There's something special about coming together outdoors to share food, conversations and laughter.

Recently, members of our Diverse Seniors Support Services program gathered for our annual picnic, creating another opportunity to connect, celebrate community and enjoy time together.

From shared meals to meaningful conversations, these gatherings help strengthen friendships and remind us that belonging grows through shared experiences.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped organize, volunteer and participate in this wonderful day.

September is World Alzheimer's Month, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma and recognize the importance of supporting individuals living with dementia - and the people who care for them.

Receiving a diagnosis doesn't change a person's identity, experiences or value. What often makes the greatest difference is access to compassionate support, informed resources and a community that understands.

Through specialized senior services, caregiver resources and dementia consultations, JFS helps individuals and families navigate these changes with dignity and confidence.

Happy Capital Pride!

This week JFS staff met up with Drag artist Morgan Mercury at to patriciate in the Fairy Cowboy walking tour of Ottawa's downtown to highlight the stories behind its 2SLGBTQ+ landmarks and historic spaces.

Beginning and ending in Dundonald Park, these tours explore prominent activist figures and the development of Ottawa's q***r nightlife. We all learned a lot. Thanks Morgan!

Sometimes the first step toward support isn't walking through a door - it's meeting someone where they are.

That's the heart of JFS-StreetSmarts Ottawa, our street-based outreach program serving Ottawa's downtown community.

Each day, staff and volunteers head into the community with essential supplies like seasonal clothing, toiletries and snacks. But the most valuable thing they bring is often something you can't pack in a bag: compassion, trust and willingness to listen.

Every conversation has the potential to make someone feel seen, every interaction is an opportunity to build trust and every act of kindness reminds us that community begins with meeting people where they are.
