🎉 Over the past 10 years, has helped more than 100,000 young Canadians connect with the Senate through conversations, events and hands-on learning experiences.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re looking back at some memorable SENgage moments from the past 10 years.

📸 Throwback to the first-ever Model Senate in 2020, where students stepped into the role of senators for a day and experienced Canada’s parliamentary system firsthand.

One program. One moment. One part of a much bigger story that’s helped SENgage reach more than 100,000 participants.

The Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry is visiting Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, this week as part of its study on the role of the agriculture and agri-food sector as it relates to food security in Canada.

As part of a study launched in fall 2025, the committee is seeking to better understand the state of food security — and insecurity — in Canada. Committee members are examining barriers to food access in Canadian communities, how environment and agriculture affect food security, and how federal policies and programs can be strengthened to support a secure and sustainable food supply.

Senators will meet with stakeholders from across the food supply chain, including food access organizations, agri-food innovators and researchers, and participate in facility tours to gain first-hand insight into challenges and opportunities related to food security, resilience and innovation.

⚠️ Content warning: Su***de

On World Su***de Prevention Day, let’s revisit what the Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology heard about su***de prevention in Canada.

Canada’s overall su***de rate doesn’t tell the whole story. Indigenous peoples, particularly Inuit, and men and boys, are disproportionately affected.

The committee recommended that the federal framework establish specific priorities for populations that are overrepresented, alongside stronger evidence-based approaches to prevention.

When SENgage, the Senate’s youth engagement program, was launched 10 years ago, there was no guarantee of success. Would teachers, students and youth groups want senators to explain how Canada’s parliamentary democracy works?

That answer turned out to be a resounding yes. This year, SENgage celebrates reaching 100,000 young people. Teachers and students alike have said again and again that the program is engaging and informative.
