The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa Duke of Edinburgh's Own Official page of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa, an infantry regiment in the Canadian Army Primary Reserve.

The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa regiment traces its history back to 1861 when a number of Militia companies were organized for the defence of Canada during the American Civil War. One of these companies was mobilized during the first Fenian Raid (Irish nationalists) into Canada from the United States in 1866. Later that year, nine independent infantry companies were united to form the 43rd Carleton Battalion of Infantry. During the Second World War, the Cameron Highlanders served on garrison duty in Iceland, trained in the United Kingdom and landed in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944 – the only Ottawa unit to do so. As part of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, the Camerons fought their way through France, Holland and into Germany in 1944 and 1945. The Camerons have accomplished much over the years and were often recognized for their achievements. In July 1967, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II presented new colours to the Camerons in Ottawa and in 1969, the Camerons were awarded the Freedom of the City. During the past 50 years, the Camerons have continued to train and carry out various operational functions to support domestic operations and to fulfill ceremonial duties such as the Rose Bowl Parade in 1976, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1984, and the 50th Anniversary of Dieppe in 1992. Now located in the Cartier Drill Hall, the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa, as part of the Canadian Forces Primary Reserves, continue to be involved in peacekeeping and domestic Canadian Forces operations.

Camerons don't just train to fight. We also train to pull!

Recently, the CH of O's tug-of-war team put up a good fight at the Maxville Highland Games' military tug-of-war competition.

We would also like to congratulate our close friends at the SD&G Highlanders for their win this year!

Being an infanteer means being ready for all eventualities. That means staying fit, no matter your rank.

Recently, a former-RSM-turned-Captain from the regiment crushed Ironman Ottawa in 12 hours, 5 minutes, and 54 seconds. It wasn't easy—he had to swim 3.8km, cycle 180km, and run 42.2km!

He bested the time he set at 31 years old by 10 minutes, going to show that age does not define an infanteer. You can always best yourself.

🏃 Fun fact: there's a lot of running in the Army. Some troops love it so much, they run marathons!

While deployed to Latvia a member of the CH of O ran the Rimi Riga Marathon. Other Camerons provided their support from the sidelines.

🇨🇦🪖🏒🇱🇻 One of the many things Latvians and Canadians agree on is that hockey rules.

While deployed to Latvia on Op Reassurance, a Cameron joined other CAF members in a friendly hockey tournament known as the "Freedom Cup". The Canadians faced off against HK Mārupe, a local club. Tournaments like these foster connections between Canada and civilians in NATO countries, reinforcing our strength and unity.

The CH of O regimental family remembers MCpl Terrance Cash, who we lost on 20 July 2026.

MCpl Cash, or Sgt Cash as he is remembered by the regiment, joined the Cape Breton Highlanders in 1990. He transferred to the 1st Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment in 1991 where he served until 1999. With the RCR, he deployed on Op HARMONY in 1994-1995 and Op PALLADIUM in 1998. He came to the CH of O in 2006, where he deployed on Operation ATHENA in 2008-2009 and was eventually promoted to Sgt. He left the Camerons to become a Cpl and later MCpl with the Canadian Military Engineers as a Geomatics Technician in 2013. While there, he deployed on Op IMPACT in 2017. He later moved to CFINTCOM and CFJIC.

MCpl Cash is remembered fondly by current and former Camerons.

Lest we forget.
