It was a productive week in Hamilton for FBCL! Our Bridge Director, Joe Dedecker, was a featured panelist at the ITS Canada Technology Innovation Forum, where he shared our strategic approach to managing the Blue Water Bridge. 🌉
Joe touched on three key areas:
✅ Daily Challenges: Managing the complexities of tolling, traffic, security, and infrastructure maintenance.
✅ Current Solutions: How we use integrated systems like GIS, CCTV Security Centers, and advanced tolling to keep operations smooth.
✅ Future Plans: Our roadmap for digital excellence, including OVIN innovation partnerships and new Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
As the No. 1 crossing of choice for commercial traffic volume at the Canada-US border, we remain committed to route optimization and safety. 🚛

La SPFL a connu une semaine fructueuse à Hamilton! Notre directeur de pont, Joe Dedecker, était panéliste à l’honneur dans le cadre du forum sur l’innovation technologique d’ITS Canada, où il a fait part de notre approche stratégique en matière de gestion du pont Blue Water. 🌉
Joe a abordé 3 secteurs clés :
✅ Les défis quotidiens : Gérer les complexités du péage, de la circulation, de la sécurité et de l’entretien des infrastructures.
✅ Les solutions actuelles : Notre façon d’utiliser des systèmes intégrés comme le SIG, les centres de sécurité avec télévision en circuit fermé et le péage évolué pour assurer le bon déroulement des opérations.
✅ Les plans pour l’avenir : Notre feuille de route pour l’excellence numérique, comme les partenariats d’innovation avec le Réseau ontarien d’innovation pour les véhicules (ROIV) et les nouveaux systèmes informatisés de gestion de l’entretien (SIGE).

📢 Attention Blue Water Bridge travellers! Starting Monday, September 15, the Michigan Department of Transportation will begin important pavement repairs on the Second Blue Water Bridge (the eastbound span heading toward Canada).
🚧 Here's what you need to know:
- The work is expected to be completed by November 1.
- One lane on the Second Blue Water Bridge will remain open to traffic during this time.
- There will be a 14-foot width restriction in place.
- The First Blue Water Bridge (the westbound span heading toward the U.S.) will not be impacted by this work.

📢 À l’attention des voyageurs qui empruntent le pont Blue Water! À compter du lundi 15 septembre 2025, le Michigan Department of Transportation effectuera d’importants travaux de réfection de la chaussée du second pont Blue Water (travée en direction est vers le Canada).
🚧 Voici ce que vous devez savoir :
- Les travaux devraient être achevés d’ici le 1er novembre.
- Une voie demeurera ouverte à la circulation sur le second pont Blue Water durant les travaux.
- Les véhicules de plus de 14 pi de large seront interdits.
- Le premier pont Blue Water (travée en direction ouest vers les États-Unis) ne sera pas touché par ces travaux.

Exciting News! is thrilled to announce a significant, multi-year Naturalization Project at the Blue Water Bridge, in collaboration with First Nation!
This project addresses a key operational need to mitigate flooding risks caused by increasingly frequent and heavy rains, enhancing the site’s environmental resilience.
Beyond improving water management, this initiative holds deep cultural significance. It includes the respectful revitalization of the landscape surrounding the Souls Memorial, with new plantings laid out specifically to honour and symbolize the Anishnaabek Medicine Wheel.

The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a corporation created under the Canada Business Corporations Act. The corporation is listed in Schedule III Part 1 of the Canadian Financial Administration Act and is an agent of Her Majesty. FBCL is a parent Crown corporation that reports to the Parliament of Canada through the Minister of Transport.
FBCL owns assets and is responsible for the Canadian federal interest at four international bridge locations in Ontario, as follows:
SAULT STE. MARIE INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE
The bridge is managed by the International Bridge Administration (IBA), an entity of the State of Michigan, U.S., through an international agreement between the asset owners, FBCL and the IBA, a division of the Michigan Department of Transport (MDOT). The bridge operations are overseen by a joint international Board of Directors, the Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority (SSMBA);
BLUE WATER BRIDGE
FBCL also manages and operates the Canadian portion of the twinned Blue Water Bridge, linking Point Edward, Ontario near Sarnia to Port Huron, Michigan. FBCL works in close cooperation with MDOT, the owner, manager, and operator of the U.S. portion of the bridge;
THOUSAND ISLANDS INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE
The bridge is managed by Thousand Island Bridges Authority (TIBA), an entity of the State of New York, U.S., under a bi-national agreement between the asset owners, FBCL and TIBA; and,
SEAWAY INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE
FBCL is responsible for management of the whole crossing including the North Channel Bridge, the international roadway, and the South Channel Bridge. The operations are managed by international agreement as a joint venture by the SIBC on behalf of the asset owners, FBCL and the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, a federal U.S. entity.
