Ambassador Korteniemi welcomed H.E. Jyrki Katainen, former Prime Minister of Finland, to the Finnish Residence in Ottawa together with her Nordic colleagues.

In his role as Special Adviser on EU-Arctic Relations, Mr. Katainen visited Canada which is one of the EU’s key partners. Our Nordic team appreciated today’s valuable exchange with such an experienced and insightful professional.

Ambassador of the European Union to Canada, H.E. Tuts, hosted an EU reception on the occasion of Mr. Katainen’s visit. Reflecting on the strong ties between the EU and Canada, Hon. Rebecca Chartrand, Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs, delivered warm remarks on our close cooperation.

Saturday gifted us with sunshine, lively conversations and good times at the annual European Union Cultural Fair. The wonderful event took place on the grounds of Canadian Museum of History, and thousands of visitors took the opportunity to attend the event.

The happiest country in the world served smiles 🍪, hockey pucks and Moomin stickers to all ages. We displayed our brand new maternity box, one of the building blocks for the Finnish happiness. Additionally, we asked visitors to share what makes them happy.

Our thanks to the organizers European Union in Canada, our enthusiastic volunteers, and all of you who visited the European Union right here by the Ottawa river.

Happy World Bicycle Day!🚲

Today we celebrate one of the simplest yet most powerful inventions - the bicycle. It is more than just a ride. It is freedom, sustainability, and positive impact.

We pedaled with our friends, allies and partners to mark the occasion. Our warmest thanks to Embassy of Poland, Ottawa for promoting bicycle diplomacy and taking the lead in organizing the annual ride along the capital’s pathways.

Congratulations on the gold, Leijonat.fi!🇫🇮🥇

The World Champions returned to Finland earlier today escorted by the Finnish Air Force F/A-18s. Upon arrival to Helsinki airport, the Finnair plane carrying the champions received a water salute to mark the occasion.

Before heading to the national celebration, the gold medalists were congratulated by the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb. Over 70 000 people gathered in Helsinki to celebrate the gold with the team! While the town squares of Finland are a bit far for us, we wouldn't miss the opportunity to celebrate here!
