💙 Today marks the World Day against Trafficking in Persons. This year’s theme is “Trapped behind the scam”: transnational organized crime groups are forcing people to take part in industrial-scale financial fraud operations. This is a growing form of trafficking in persons for forced criminality, closely intertwined with cybercrime, financial fraud, money-laundering and corruption.

Belgium is deeply committed to this cause and supports the Blue Heart campaign; a global awareness initiative aimed at ending human trafficking.

💙 Aujourd'hui marque la Journée mondiale de la lutte contre la traite d’êtres humains. Le thème de cette année est « Piégés derrière l'arnaque » : des groupes criminels transnationaux organisés contraignent des personnes à participer à des opérations de fraude financière à grande échelle. Il s'agit d'une forme croissante de traite des êtres humains à des fins criminelles forcées, étroitement liée à la cybercriminalité, à la fraude financière, au blanchiment d'argent et à la corruption.

La Belgique est profondément engagée dans cette lutte et soutient la campagne Blue Heart, une initiative mondiale de sensibilisation visant à mettre fin à la traite des êtres humains.

💙 Vandaag is het Wereld Anti-Mensenhandel Dag. Het thema van dit jaar is "Gevangen achter de zwendel": transnationale georganiseerde misdaadgroepen dwingen mensen deel te nemen aan grootschalige financiële fraude. Het gaat hier om een groeiende vorm van mensenhandel met als doel gedwongen criminaliteit, nauw verweven met cybercriminaliteit, financiële fraude, witwassen en corruptie.

België is ten volle betrokken bij deze strijd en steunt de Blauwe Hart-campagne, een wereldwijd bewustwordingsinitiatief dat gericht is op het beëindigen van mensenhandel.

On July 21, we proudly celebrated Belgium’s National Day with a flag-raising ceremony at Ottawa City Hall, it was a powerful symbol of friendship.
Seeing the Belgian flag fly in the heart of Canada’s capital was a meaningful reminder of the enduring relationship between Belgium and Canada, built on shared values and cooperation.

Thank you to the City of Ottawa, Councillor Laura Dudas, Senator Hon. Clément Gignac, ASC and all those who came together to celebrate this special occasion, including members of the diplomatic corps, Canadian officials, and the Belgian community. 🇧🇪 🇨🇦
