A Piece of our Past:
A standpipe bath was regarded as one of the sweetest baths going up in Beautiful Barbados
Pictured here in 1954 is a local woman giving a little boy a nice refreshing bath.
Before indoor plumbing became a common place, the standpipes along the roadsides often provided a free source of water for the villages and communities.
While you wouldn’t see standpipes in the heights, terraces or new residential communities, they still remain a common place in several villages across the country.
