TEXT: I am shocked to learn about UofC security's attack on ElShalom Bantero, who has been threatened with a $10,000 fine and six months prison time for “trespassing”. El is a student who pays to attend this school-not a trespasser. Banning her from campus amounts to summary suspension, which you have no right to carry out.
It is obvious that this is a political attack on left-wing organizing and the Palestine movement which El has played a key role in, as a leading figure in the Student Strike 4 Palestine campaign. You are violating freedom of expression on this campus and I, along with concerned citizens across the country, are going to make sure university administration, the student union, and every single person on campus knows about this. I demand that you rescind this threat immediately."

On Monday August 18, comrades of the RCP in Ottawa joined Air Canada flight attendants on the picket in solidarity. Over 10 000 are on illegal strike, defying the Liberals' back to work order. The mood among the workers was energetic and defiant, with lots of spontaneous chants demanding an end to unpaid work. They overwhelmingly agreed with our perspective to broaden the strike and to fight the government's order head on.

In order for this strike to win, the whole labour movement must lend its active support against the government and the employers. The workers are grasping this instinctively. Several from other unions were already supporting the strike, including a pilot and a flight attendant from Porter. This must be made a conscious policy and extended across CUPE locals and the rest of the sector. The communists will be there every step of the way.

Unpaid work won't fly!
