Operation Lifesaver Canada

Operation Lifesaver Canada Working to and educate Canadians about rail safety since 1981. EN: https://www.operationlifesaver.ca
FR: https://www.operationgareautrain.ca

Funded by the Railway Association of Canada and Transport Canada, we work with the rail industry, governments, law enforcement, labour groups, the media, and other organizations and communities from coast to coast to increase awareness about rail safety—because we believe rail safety is a shared responsibility. Our dedicated staff and Rail Safety Ambassadors across the country educate Canadians of

all ages through rail safety presentations to schools, youth clubs, driver associations, snowmobile and ATV clubs and other community groups. By working together, we are making Canadians more aware of the hazards around railway property—and saving lives in the process.

Don’t do this. Please. Even if this *is* AI.
Don’t encourage risky, illegal behaviours.

Train surfing can kill or injure. A flare can lead to a major incident. A momentary act can lead to several lifetimes of hurt.

A rail-safe rule of thumb for drivers: if you don't fit, don't commit.

When you're approaching a rail crossing, watch for oncoming trains. And don't advance or cross unless you know you can fully clear with room to spare.

Train time is anytime. And a train hitting a car is like a car rolling over a pop can.

Stay clear, stay safe, stay alive.

Our BC team is on-site and ready to talk rail safety collaboration opportunities at the First Nations Emergency Preparedness Event at
the S.A.Y. Community Centre in Chilliwack.

Several railways traverse the lands and territories of the Lower Mainland and everyone has a role to play to ensure safety always comes first.

Looking forward to today’s conversations.

Snowmobile Safety Week in Canada runs Jan 10-18.

While winter riding is one of the best parts of the season, railway tracks are trails and deserve extra attention every time you ride.

This week we’ve got something special for you: a new safety video (FR) that shows why remembering to matters on snowmobile trails that cross or run near rails. It’s packed with tips every rider should see before heading out.

Check it and our other rail-safe snowmobiling info on this page:

EN: https://www.operationlifesaver.ca/initiatives/campaigns/rail-safe-snowmobiling/

FR: https://www.operationgareautrain.ca/nos-initiatives/campagnes/la-securite-en-motoneige/

Let’s make sure every ride ends with everyone safe at home.

Our volunteers get to meet a lot of impressive young people in their travels. At this year's Canadian Western Agribition, we met *hundreds* of students from various grades and from schools across Saskatchewan with a passion for keeping themselves, their friends, and their loved ones rail-safe.

There were so many impressive groups through our interactive booth and gamified demo sessions, that we couldn't pick just one school class to reward for their smarts and savvy at the Canada's premier agricultural show.

So, this week, officers from CPKC and Canadian National Railway Company police stopped by TWO classrooms: the Grade 3 class at Nakoda Oyade Education Centre on Carry The Kettle First Nation Society and Mrs. Rodilsky's Grade 2/3 class Balcarres Community School.

The need for rail safety education never stops. And neither do our volunteers!

Kudos to every young Canadian and every educator doing their part to keep our communities stay rail-safe.

The CPKC calendar is filled of beautiful photos of company trains in various locations and across seasons. Brenda Land talks about the calendar and tips for rail-safe phototaking. After all, the best photo is a safe photo. And no photo, selfie, or video is worth the risk.
