Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa Together with over 1000 volunteers, we foster, facilitate and support one-to-one and group mentoring relationships with children in need of a special friend.

As Canada’s leading child and youth mentoring charity, Big Brothers Big Sisters facilitates life-changing relationships that inspire and empower young people to reach their full potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa is the premier mentoring organization in Ottawa that provides rewarding, life-changing, fun experiences for children/youth through programs that enrich the lives of all involved. We serve over 1000 children and youth annually in programs supported by volunteers based on the principles of safe and quality programming. We focus on enabling children to hope and dream and realize their potential. Grands Frères Grandes Sœurs d’Ottawa est le principal organisme de mentorat à Ottawa qui fait vivre aux enfants et aux jeunes des expériences gratifiantes, amusantes et déterminantes grâce à des programmes qui enrichissent la vie de toutes les personnes concernées. Avec l’aide de plus de 1000 bénévoles, nous favorisons, facilitons et soutenons l’établissement de relations de mentorat individuelles et de groupe avec des enfants qui ont besoin d’un ou d’une amie spécial-e. Plus de 1100 enfants et jeunes prennent part annuellement à nos programmes offerts par des bénévoles respectueux des principes de sécurité et de qualité. Nous cherchons à donner aux enfants la possibilité d’espérer et de rêver et de s’épanouir pleinement.

Big Possibilities is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa’s flash mentoring program focused on helping youth ages 14-24 explore what their future could look like.

Through interactive workshops and connections with local professionals, youth have the opportunity to explore different career paths, build practical skills, and learn more about life after high school. From resumes and interview preparation to financial literacy, post-secondary education, and becoming “future ready,” each session is shaped around what young people want and need to learn. 💙

How does a match actually start? 💙

Long before a mentor and young person meet for the first time, our team is working behind the scenes to help find a connection that feels right.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to mentorship. Every young person is different, and every mentor brings something different to the table. That’s why we’re intentional about who we bring together.

And when we find a connection, we think could be a great fit? That’s where the next chapter begins, meeting, getting to know one another, and starting to build a relationship one moment at a time.

Meet Julie! 👋

Julie Darcis is our Service Delivery Team Lead and Enrolment Coordinator, helping young people and families take those first important steps toward finding the right mentorship connection.

A fun fact? Julie has visited 32 countries, and country number 33 is already on the list! ✈️🌎

To Julie, mentorship is about creating a safe, fun space where a young person can feel completely comfortable being unapologetically themselves. 💙

It’s about building the kind of connection and trust that lets a young person know they’ll always have someone in their corner, someone who sees their potential, believes in them, and keeps believing even in the moments when they might not believe in themselves.

We’re so grateful to have Julie as part of the BBBSO team, helping young people begin their mentorship journey and find connections where they can feel supported, seen and celebrated for exactly who they are.
