Office of the Auditor General of Canada Welcome to our official page! Our mission is to contribute to a well-managed and accountable government for all Canadians.

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG) conducts independent financial and performance audits of all federal and territorial government departments and agencies and most Crown corporations according to our legislative mandate. We provide objective information, advice, and assurance to Parliament, territorial legislatures, boards of Crown corporations, and Canadians to support the oversight of government programs and services as well as the use of public funds. In 2020, Karen Hogan was appointed Auditor General of Canada for a 10-year mandate. We also have a specific mandate related to the environment and sustainable development. Jerry DeMarco, the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development since 2021, provides parliamentarians with objective, independent analysis and recommendations on the federal government’s efforts to protect the environment and foster sustainable development. OAG senior officials headed to Halifax for the 47th annual Canadian Council of Public Accounts Committees (CCPAC) and the Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors (CCOLA) Conference that brought together legislative auditors and public accounts committees from across Canada.

Our team shared insights on the strategic value of audit topic selection and how our audit work can be leveraged to interpret the Public Accounts.

Beyond the sessions on accountability and oversight, the conference offered a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, learn from peers, and strengthen connections from coast to coast to coast ahead of the return of parliamentary sittings this fall.

🌌On its own, a star is a single point of light. Together, stars tell a larger story.

Northern audits require a similar approach. Northern communities face unique challenges, including geographic remoteness and diverse cultures and languages across the territories. By connecting the evidence to these realities, our audit teams can make thoughtful recommendations to northern legislative assemblies and help Canadians better understand whether government programs are meeting the needs of the North.
