CMC welcomes Ontario’s investment of more than $2.8 million in strategic port infrastructure at Thunder Bay and Marathon. These investments will strengthen supply chains, support trade, and reinforce the vital role marine transportation plays in Canada’s economy ⚓

Congratulations to CMC member Port of Thunder Bay on securing funding to expand Keefer Terminal, enhancing cargo capacity and strengthening its role as a key gateway for Canadian trade. We also applaud Premier Doug Ford FordNation and the Ontario Government for their continued support of marine transportation and the infrastructure that drives jobs, competitiveness, and economic growth 🚢

Thank you to the Port of Johnstown team for hosting the CMC for an insightful tour and visit last week! ⚓ 👏

As one of the very few municipally owned ports in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system, the Port of Johnstown plays a vital role in connecting Canadian producers to global markets. We were fascinated to learn more about the port’s rich history, including its iconic grain elevator, which has been in continuous operation since 1931 and remains at the heart of the facility today 🌾

From exporting key commodities such as soybeans and corn to supporting Greenfield Global’s neighbouring ethanol facility, the port is a critical link in Canada's supply chains. Its strategic location alongside a CBSA office also positions it as a logical first port of arrival as Canada works to diversify trade and strengthen international market access.

We appreciate the opportunity to see firsthand how the Port of Johnstown continues to drive economic growth, support trade, and showcase the value of marine transportation in Canada's future!

Congratulations are in order for Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited and Picton Terminals Ltd.!

CMC President & CEO Joshua Juel was pleased to attend the grand opening of P&H's new grain terminal in Picton, Ontario today 🌾

This significant investment in agricultural and marine transportation infrastructure will help connect Ontario grain producers to domestic and global markets. Sourcing locally grown grain from within a 2-3 hour radius of Picton, this 38,000 tonne facility has the capacity to load more than 15 trucks per hour from local farms and handle over 6,000 tonnes of grain daily. By moving more grain through the marine transportation system, the facility will help alleviate truck traffic on Highway 401 and enhance the overall efficiency of the agricultural supply chain!

The new terminal highlights the vital role marine shipping plays in supporting Ontario's agricultural sector, strengthening supply chains, and enhancing efficient trade corridors that connect producers to market ⚓

Earlier this week, the CMC was grateful to visit member Goderich Port Management Corporation in Goderich, Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron! ⚓ 🌊

A special thank you to Frank Hurkmans, President & CEO, and Noah Krantz, Harbourmaster, for hosting an incredibly insightful tour of the Port’s operations, including its grain terminal and salt mine. It was also a pleasure to be joined by Mayor Trevor Bazinet of the Town of Goderich.

We were fortunate to board the M/V Heerengracht, a Dutch Spliethoff ship loading Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited grain bound for Norway, an 18-day overseas journey highlighting the global reach of Great Lakes shipping 🌾 🚢

As the only deepwater port on the east shore of Lake Huron, the Port of Goderich plays a vital role in supporting southwestern Ontario’s economy. The port is investing more than $3.5 million in a new 50,000-square-foot bulk storage facility, while a shovel-ready 11-acre expansion project awaits federal and provincial funding. Let’s get it built!
