Sadaqa Food Bank Our Mission: Ease the struggle of all impoverished families in Ottawa by providing supplemental Halal

Sadaqa Food Bank is a community initiative launched in September 2007. We are a grass roots organization, run primarily on the steam of dedicated community volunteers. The idea is to give food instead of cash to needy families to help them avoid the misuse of the cash. We are the only food bank in the city operating on weekends and the only Halal food bank in Ottawa. No food bank in Ottawa serves

food packages sensitive to the specific needs of Muslim culture. The Sadaqa Food Bank *ONLY* provides free food items in accordance with Islamic dietary practices, to clients irrespective of any religion, ethnicity or race. This means that all food items contain no pig or pork products, are alcohol free, and that all meat is "zabiha" (Islamically slaughtered). If we receive any donated food items which do not meet our halal criteria we send it to Ottawa Food Bank. According to the Ottawa food bank, the SFB is classified as one of a handful of X-large food banks in the city serving over 1000 individuals every month. We are proud to play a significant role in helping the city fight hunger.

Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him do we return.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing away of Br. Mumtaz Akhtar.

His Janaza will take place at the Ottawa Mosque (251 Northwestern Ave, Ottawa, ON K1Y 0M1) on January 28, 2021 at 12:55pm in the parking lot.

Burial will take place after the Janaza at the Ottawa Muslim Cemetery (1668 Manotick Station Rd, Greely, ON K4P 1M9).

*IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS*

Br. Mumtaz Akhtar came to Ottawa in the 1960s as a young man and served the Ottawa Muslim Community all his life. He was known to some of us as Mamdu. He got married to beautiful Talat in the early seventies and their daughters were all born in Ottawa. He has served the Ottawa Mosque, Canada Pakistan Association and Human Concern International to name a few.

On behalf of the Ottawa Muslim Association, and the community, we offer our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased and we pray to Allah SWT to help them during this time and grant them endurance and patience.
