Sexual Assault Support Centre Ottawa

Sexual Assault Support Centre Ottawa The Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) is a non-profit charity and community based organization established in 1983.

Our purpose is to provide survivor directed support services by women, to women, who have experienced sexual violence. We strive to increase public awareness and offer training on the issues and effects of violence against women. We also engage in action to pressure for change in the structures and systems that contribute to the practice, maintenance, and tolerance of violence, oppression, discrim

ination and exploitation. Our work is informed by the principles of a feminist, anti-oppression framework, and our vision is a society free of all forms of violence.

In Canada, 1 in 6 people who menstruate have experienced period poverty. Beyond financial barriers, stigma and shame continue to silence conversations around menstruation (WAGE 2025). Many individuals face limited access to products, inadequate education, and a lack of supportive resources.

These barriers whether financial, social, or educational make it harder for people to access the care they need and deserve.

Today, we shed light on all of these realities and work toward breaking the stigma surrounding periods.

For support, resources or access to menstrual products, please contact:

We are proud to share our new art piece at the centre.

This work reflects the journey of our volunteers at SASC over the past year their dedication, care, and the strong sense of community they continue to build.

Created in collaboration with Maygie Mortazvi, the piece captures reflections of emotion, growth, and moments of emptiness experienced along the way. It speaks to both the challenges and the resilience within our space.

To our volunteers: thank you for the genuine effort, compassion, and commitment you bring into this work every day. You are at the heart of this community.

And a heartfelt thank you to Maggie for her incredible artistic contribution to the centre over the years. Her work beautifully represents SASC’s history telling stories of lived experiences, strength, and moments of joy through art 💜
