A recent project where we upgraded a 12-year-old off-grid system to improve reliability, storage, and year-round performance.

The Challenge
An aging system using lead-acid batteries with limited efficiency and lifespan, combined with an under-sized solar array. Winter conditions further impacted performance, highlighting the need for a complete redesign.

The Upgrade
We engineered a full system upgrade tailored to the property:

A recent off-grid solar system upgrade we completed in Eastern Ontario.

We were brought in to refurbish a 12-year-old system that was running on lead-acid batteries and an undersized solar array. The goal was to improve reliability and make sure the system performs consistently year-round.

We doubled the storage capacity using Discover Helios Lithium Batteries and increased the solar array by 200%. This gives the homeowner a much more stable and efficient system, especially through seasonal changes.

As a solar energy company with over 25 years of experience, we design systems based on real-world conditions here in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.

Before anyone points it out, yes, there is shading on the bottom row of panels. Those panels are intended for winter use, when the sun is lower in the sky and there is no shading from the top rows. This is part of the design to maintain production throughout the year.

This is more common than people think. A homeowner in Ottawa reached out after an arc fault shut their system down, originally installed by a company no longer in business.

We were on-site the next day, reset the system, and got it producing again. Just as important, we explained what to watch for and what to do if the issue comes back.
