August 22nd marks the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief. On this day, CRCVC honours all those who have faced harm because of their faith or beliefs. Today is a reminder that freedom of religion or belief is a fundamental human right. Let us stand together in promoting respect and understanding, as we work towards a world where everyone can live free from discrimination and violence.

This virtual group offers support to family members, friends, and close loved ones of homicide victims. The grief of losing someone to homicide presents unique challenges, and this space allows survivors to connect with others who may understand.

On International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, CRCVC recognizes the resilience, wisdom, and leadership of Indigenous Peoples worldwide. As August 9 falls on a Sunday this year, the observance will take place on Monday, August 10, 2026. We reaffirm our commitment to listening, learning, and advancing trauma-informed support and reconciliation. Following this year’s theme, “Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being,” we honour the vital contributions of Indigenous midwives. Their traditional knowledge, passed down through generations, supports families and communities, preserves Indigenous languages and cultures, and strengthens connections to the land.

Bill C-16 , Protecting Victims Act, introduces significant changes to Canada's criminal justice system to better support victims and survivors.

Key updates include:
- Stronger protections for victims and survivors of gender-based violence
- New measures to address coercive and controlling conduct
- Enhanced responses to intimate partner violence and femicide
- Increased protections for children from online exploitation and abuse
- Changes aimed at improving victims' and survivors' rights and reducing delays in the justice system

These reforms are designed to strengthen safety, accountability, and access to justice for victims across Canada.
