I had a great time helping out at the BBQ tent at the 2026 Carp Shootout Men’s Fastball Tournament on Saturday. Thank you to the very dedicated people from the Carp Fastball Committee for organizing another great event, and to all the volunteers who came out to help make the event a success. I now look forward to the 2026 Canadian U20 Men’s Fast Pitch Championship in Carp this summer, August 4-9. West Carleton Fastball

Yesterday morning, I stopped in to join our friends at West Carleton Disaster Relief to observe a mock disaster response exercise. The scenario involved a simulated wildland fire in the Carp Hills that required residents to be evacuated.

Living in an area where wildland fires and other natural disasters can and do occur, we are fortunate to have WCDR ready to help during emergencies. Exercises like this help prepare volunteers, strengthen community readiness, and ensure we are fully equipped to respond when real incidents occur.

We got a full weekend kicked off yesterday morning with a delicious pancake breakfast hosted by the firefighters of Corkery. Thank you to the hardworking and dedicated crew at Station 84 for another great event, and to the many members of the community who came out in support.

My latest newsletter is now available. This issue includes the grand opening of the newly expanded Corkery Community Centre, parking concerns in Constance Bay, road resurfacing projects, funding for upgrades to the Fitzroy ball diamond, upcoming community events, and much more.

One of the best parts of this job is getting out into our community, attending local events, meeting residents, and hearing directly about the issues and opportunities that matter most to you. This month's newsletter includes highlights from around Ward 5, along with important updates from City Hall.

During our rounds on Saturday, Heather-Lina and I stopped at Archie’s for lunch and to help support the West Carleton Food Access Centre, who takes care of us during difficult times. Thank you to the team at Archie’s for a great lunch and for putting on this fundraiser to give back to the community. Another great weekend with community pride on full display in West Carleton-March.

Saturday was a wonderful day for the Corkery community as we celebrated the grand opening of the new, expanded Corkery Community Centre.

This project certainly had its challenges, so this was not just a celebration of a new building and its amenities, but a celebration of our community and how it came together to get through a difficult process. The strength, dedication, and perseverance of the community were on full display throughout this project.

Thank you to the Corkery Community Association and its board members for never giving up, even though I’m sure there were many times they wanted to. Thank you to Ottawa Fire Services and Station 84 for working with me to ensure the outdoor rink remained open and accessible during construction delays.

Thank you to the dedicated City of Ottawa staff who worked hard to get this project completed. And thank you to Cavanagh Construction for coming in to take over this job, getting the project back on track, and then delivering a job very well done.

And of course, thank you to the community members who came out to celebrate this day and who used their passion and voices over the past four years to push everyone involved to find solutions and get this project completed for the community.

We did it, and I look forward to seeing this facility serve the Corkery community for many years to come.
