Honouring the Ottawa Irish Seniors Community 🇮🇪 🇨🇦

A wonderful afternoon at the Official Residence of Ireland in Canada as the Ambassador and Embassy team welcomed members of the Ottawa Irish Seniors community for the annual Seniors Garden Party.

With sunshine and great Irish music from both the Rideau Ramblers, and the Embassy’s own Cultural Officer, Aengus Finnan, it was a fantastic celebration of our seniors community that has contributed so much to both Ireland and Canada.

The Embassy was as delighted to welcome, special guest, Canada’s Ambassador to Ireland, HE Dennis King, who joined Ambassador Concannon in reflecting on the deep and enduring connections between our two countries and the important role played by the Irish diaspora in strengthening those bonds.

The Ottawa Irish Seniors group is supported through the Government of Ireland’s Emigrant Support Programme, which assists Irish communities around the world and forms an important part of Ireland’s Diaspora Strategy: https://www.ireland.ie/en/irish-diaspora/diaspora-strategy-2026-2030/

A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a memorable afternoon.

Second Secretary Elisabeth O’Higgins recently visited Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, to commemorate the 94th anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s 1932 solo transatlantic flight.

Second Secretary O’Higgins was thrilled to join MHA of Harbour Grace - Port De Grave, Pam Parsons and local MP Paul Connors in greeting the Harbour Grace community.

The event celebrated the unveiling of the town’s fully restored Amelia Earhart statue. Earhart’s historic journey began in Harbour Grace. After an arduous 15-hour flight across the Atlantic, she successfully touched down in a field in Ireland, forging a lasting bond between Canada and Ireland.

Thank you to the people of Harbour Grace for keeping this incredible aviation legacy alive!

Happy international Tea Day! 🇮🇪 🫖 ☕️

Ireland is an island of tea drinkers, the kettle’s always on and it’s never too early nor too late for a good cuppa! Did you know Ireland is number 2 on the list of countries with the most tea consumption per capita!? That’s over 2kg or just over 5lbs per person per year! (For reference Canada is 23rd and China 22nd!)

What makes a good Irish breakfast blend?
A combination of a strong Assam base with Ceylon black tea or Kenyan pekoe. Usually served with a splash of milk.

What’s your favourite Irish tea brand?
