🥰 Have you met Dannielle?

Dannielle will be joining the team for the first time this September and we can't wait! She's the best new addition to Camp WILD for so many reasons, especially because she LOVES to play! This September Dannielle will offer be offering playshops on storytelling fun with artistic and theatrical flair. ✨

Dannielle’s family history is long and rich, with roots in the Underground Railroad from Gaithersburg, Maryland, US to the family settlement near Chatham, Ontario. While Dannielle’s artistic journey began late in her life, she has always been a creative; she is a vocalist, is part of the local community musical theatre in Ottawa and enjoys expressive painting. Dannielle is constantly searching for ways to express her journey through trauma to joy in her work, and to connect with others to for a collective healing experience.

As a continuation of our conversation about lessons learned from the pandemic, we wanted to explore how creativity played a role in our lives, our work, and broadly, for people as a means to find emotional outlets and process the unforeseen changes in our collective lives. It was marvellous to watch people dive into their creative sides, but also come together as a community in times of care, because they were connecting with themselves in times of isolation.

As an extension of our podcast episode on Lessons from the Pandemic, we have a series of blog posts sharing our thoughts and experiences, with some excerpts below to glimpse:

Dannielle’s Reflections

The main lesson I learned from the pandemic is that I need to take time for self-reflection. But overall, self-reflection is not scary, and this is a lesson I take not only personally, but that I share with everyone. Leslie often catches me talking with people, and I say, okay, let’s just take a breath here, or let’s all collectively take a moment because we need to be in touch. I know I need to be more in touch with what’s going on internally. The next lesson I learned is that our human connection is more important than we ever imagined. And we all learned that the hard way, unfortunately through the pandemic.

Leslie’s Reflections

As a thinker and a doer, I realised the isolation of the pandemic was very challenging because I couldn’t carry out all my needs on my own. I realised the value of the places out in the world that helped me meet my own needs. Being left to my own devices during the pandemic, I now value those support systems even more than before because now I know that even if I can meet many of my needs, I can’t meet them all.

Ostensibly, we are out of the pandemic, and we hear a lot of people say oh, that was the past. In our clients and friends and people around us we hear voices, feeling like they need to return to normal because the pandemic has passed. A part of us doesn’t want to think about the…
