We are reaching out with permission from the family and with deep sadness to share that, due to the sudden and unexpected loss of a member of our Inuuqatigiit Centre family, the Celebration of Success scheduled for this coming Saturday, June 20, 2026, will be postponed. This was not an easy decision, but we believe it is the most caring and respectful one at this time.

In moments of loss, people may carry grief in different ways, and we want to make space for whatever feelings may come forward. Guided by the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principle of Piliriqatigiinniq, coming together, supporting one another, and moving through difficult moments as a community, we ask that everyone hold this news with care, compassion, and gentleness. Please give yourselves and one another patience, kindness, and room to process in the ways that feel needed. We will share a new date for the Celebration of Success when the time is right.

Please reach out to Inuuqatigiit Centre staff that you are connected to should you need supports at this time. It is important to connect with those around use during these difficult times. Please take care of yourselves and know that we are here to support however we can.

What does home feel like?

Sometimes it’s not a place. It’s being surrounded by people who understand you. It’s hearing your language, sharing your culture, and feeling connected to community, even when you’re far from where you grew up.

For many Inuit in Ottawa, being away from home can bring feelings of homesickness and distance. But spaces like Inuuqatigiit Centre create opportunities to connect with culture, traditions, and one another - helping people feel grounded, supported, and welcomed.

When people feel connected to their culture and community, they feel a little less alone, and a little more at home.

If you believe in supporting Inuit children, youth, and families in Ottawa, please consider donating. 👉https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/14290

Together, we keep our culture strong.
