Announcement of the Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia in Ottawa on Seeking Potential Candidates for the Position of
Honorary Consul of the Republic of North Macedonia in Canada
The Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia in Ottawa is inviting interested parties to apply for the position of Honorary Consul of the Republic of North Macedonia in Canada.
The duties of an honorary consul revolve around promoting and protecting the interests of the Republic of North Macedonia and its citizens in their consular district, including economic promoting of the Republic of North Macedonia, attracting foreign investments, increasing export of the Republic of North Macedonia, strengthening the business contacts between the businessmen of the two countries, organizing business forums in the country in which it is accredited and giving initiatives for holding such forums in the Republic of North Macedonia, strengthening the cultural, scientific, educational and sports cooperation, providing consular assistance to the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia when it is agreed with the host country, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, and the law of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Rules for Conducting a Procedure for Opening a Consulate headed by an Honorary Consul and for Appointing and Dismissing Honorary Consul of the Republic of North Macedonia.
Facilities, privileges and immunities of the Honorary Consuls are regulated in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, and also with the particular law and bilateral agreements of the states.
The Honorary Consul should be under direct supervision and guidance of the Embassy.
The ideal candidates have the following qualifications:
- The candidate must enjoy the respect and trust of society, and provide a guarantee of the exercise od the function in accordance with the interest of the Republic of North Macedonia;
- Must be of unsullied character and integrity;
- Must be a resident of the consular seat;
- Must have sufficient resources to provide and maintain office spaces adequate and befitting the position and accessible to the nationals of the Republic of North Macedonia;
- Must not have direct or indirect interests that are in potential conflict with the exercise of his official functions; and
- Must not currently hold the position of honorary consular officer of another country.
Procedures for Application:
Please submit the following documentation:
- Motivational letter
- CV – English and Macedonian language;
- A copy of the ID card as a proof of a permanent place of residence of the candidate, which should be the same as the seat of the consular office that is proposed to be opened;
- Proof that the person has not been convinced of a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment of at least six months, or of a criminal offense in connections with his official activity or another offense which makes him incompetent to perform the function of honorary consular official, and proof that no conducts are being instituted against him;
- Proof for provided funds from its own sources or sponsorships from private or state entities in the host country, necessary for the functioning of the consular mission headed by an honorary consular official
- Proof that he has provided premises for the consular office, which cannot be less than 50m2 (included photos of the premises and the address);
- Proof of possession of citizenship of the country for which he is nominated or citizenship of a third country (certificate or passport),
- Proof that he/she speaks the official language of the host country, if she/he is not a citizen of that country;
Tenure of office: The tenure of the office for the honorary consuls shall be from three to five years, with possibility to extend the tenure for another term, in accordance with the Rules of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia on the Honorary Consuls.
