Today, on Firefighters’ National Memorial Day, we pause to honour the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Each name on the Canadian Firefighters Memorial represents a life of service of a parent, child, sibling, friend and colleague who answered the call but did not return home.

Oshawa Firefighters Local 465 stands with fire services across Canada in remembering our fallen brothers and sisters. We remain committed to advancing the safety standards, cancer protections and mental-health supports that honour their service and help protect future generations of firefighters.

Thank you to Oshawa MPP Jennifer French for stopping by our annual Firefighters’ Boot Toll and showing her support for Oshawa Firefighters Local 465.

We appreciate MPP French taking the time to speak with our members and help us raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada and local charities. Thank you for always supporting Oshawa’s firefighters and our community!

Twenty five years later, we remember the 343 FDNY firefighters and the thousands of innocent people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

We honour the courage and selflessness of everyone who answered the call that day, many making the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

We also remember the first responders who have since lost their lives or continue to suffer from illnesses connected to their work at Ground Zero.

Today, Oshawa Firefighters IAFF Local 465 stand with our brothers and sisters in the FDNY, their families and everyone forever affected by September 11.

Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

With students back to school this week, our roads are once again busy with school buses, children walking and biking, and families adjusting to new routines.

Please take a few extra seconds to slow down, stay alert and watch for school buses making frequent stops.

When the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is out - STOP. A child’s safety depends on it.

Let’s all do our part to keep Oshawa’s students safe this school year.

Back to school means more children walking, biking and taking the bus through our neighbourhoods.

Please slow down, stay alert and give yourself extra time, especially near schools, crosswalks and school buses. A few extra seconds can make all the difference.
