Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. Interested On How BBL Will Affect Business Community, Invites Marcos

Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. will be the guest speaker of Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. today May 29, 2015 in their 5th General Membership Meeting at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City.

In a letter dated April 1, DCCII president Antonio Dela Cruz extended an invitation to Sen. Marcos to be the guest speaker in their meeting asserting that as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, Sen. Marcos has exerted vigorous efforts in conducting consultations and hearings in tackling the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.

BBL has been placed into the spot light following the January 25, 2015 Mamasapano incident prompting many legislators to question many of the provisions of the proposed law.

“As the most talked about issue, Davao City’s businessmen are interested to know more into the basics of the law and how it can affect the business community,” Dela Cruz said.

As their guest speaker, Marcos will provide Davao City’s businessmen an opportunity for consultation and discussion on BBL, according to Dela Cruz.

Sen. Marcos is in the process of wrapping up the hearings on BBL to enable him to prepare the committee report on BBL.

The recent hearings provided opportunities for the Moro National Liberation Front—the first Moro rebel group to forge a peace pact with the Philippine government—the Sultanates, the indigenous people of Mindanao to voice their concerns and opinion on BBL.

The last committee hearing on BBL on June 3 will be devoted to hear the inputs of local government officials not only from the core areas of the Bangsamoro territories but also in adjacent areas.

Marcos noted that these major stakeholders were not consulted in the process of negotiations that led to the signing of a peace pact between the Philippine Government and the M**F, and the drafting of the BBL.

According to the senator the BBL will not succeed unless the concerns of all major stakeholders are addressed.

And despite Malacanang’s expressed desire for the passage of BBL before Congress adjourns sine die on June 10, Marcos stressed that his top priority is “to get it right”, not merely to beat an arbitrary deadline.
