Monday August 3, 2026. It is McLaughlin Day in the City of Oshawa. Other communities call it the Civic Holiday or Lord Simcoe Day. Today we recognize the efforts of Col. Sam McLaughlin who relocated the family carriage works from Enniskillen to Oshawa. The visionary Council of the day provided a little financial help to make the move possible, thus transforming Oshawa from quiet community into a thriving industrial powerhouse. By 1924 Oshawa had become a small City. Col. Sam worked his charm om Durant to influence him into creating the giant known as General Motors.

Today we hold our heads high and celebrate the strong and vibrant industrial history of our City.

McLaughlin (Civic) Day is Monday, August 3.

As a reminder:

🏛️ Service Oshawa and City Hall will be closed.
🏀 Recreation facilities will have modified hours
🗑️ Waste collection will be one day later than usual.
