Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated in Canada since the 1990s, but it wasn't until 2002 that May was officially recognized as the month to celebrate it across the country.
This year’s theme, “Honouring Asian Canadians: Stories that Built Canada,” is all about recognizing the important role Asian Canadians have played — and continue to play — in shaping Canada’s story.
Want to learn more? Check out the “Asian Communities in Canada” and “Asian Canadian Perspectives” collections from the NFB to explore stories, achievements, and contributions that help make Canada the diverse and vibrant place it is today.

Happy International Tea Day - what’s your cup of tea? From the same Camellia sinensis plant come many varieties of tea — white, green, yellow, oolong, black, and dark (Pu-erh) — each shaped by how the leaves are processed.
A gentle reminder to slow down, take a breath, and enjoy life’s simple comforts - whether it’s a cozy morning cup or a calming afternoon pause.
Browse our collection to discover books that explore tea through storytelling, delve into its rich history, and guide you through the art of tea etiquette.

It was only in 1990 that the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases. However, that decision opened a door.

Communities around the world mark the anniversary each year, demanding that doors keep opening. Today, on May 17, we recognize the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, a global moment of solidarity and resistance for LGBTQIA+ communities.

Today is Moose Hide Campaign Day, a day of ceremony and action calling on people across Turtle Island to take a stand against violence toward women, children, and those on the gender continuum.

A moose hide pin shows your personal commitment to honour, respect, and protect women and children. These pins are considered gifts of medicine. You can pick up a moose hide pin (vegan option available) in the Library.

Watch the live streams of the Keynote address from Dr. Niigaan Sinclair, the rally, and fast-breaking ceremony in the Fireside Reading Room.

Florence Nightingale was an English statistician and the founder of modern nursing.
In 1860, she established the world's first secular nursing school at St Thomas' Hospital in London.

Nightingale was an innovator in statistics, representing her analysis in polar area diagrams, also called the Nightingale rose diagram, which is similar to the modern pie chart.
