Sad that the City tried to halt this annual event.

Across the road, the Canadian Automotive Museum was welcoming visitors as well.

Labour Day 2026.

A time for reflection on the history of labour and our City.

While much attention is focused on General Motors and the related labour movement, our history as a manufacturing powerhouse goes well beyond automotive.

Known as the Manchester of Canada, Oshawa was home to many businesses that helped evolve our country.

This morning a fire at Macintosh Anderson Kellam funeral home on King St. E has greatly altered our historic downtown.

For over 150 years, this family run funeral home has served the people of Oshawa. From historic horse drawn hearses to dual purpose hearse/ambulance automobiles, to today's services, MAK has been an integral part of our city and people.

We thank our Oshawa Fire Services. We share the pain of the Kellam family for this devastating loss to your business.

Whether you are attending the Labour Congress picnic at Memorial Park, free admission to the Canadian Automotive Museum, or attending a municipal election event, may your reflection today be on the people and actions that have helped shape our City of Oshawa.

Doing such great work with zero public funding.

We received two very important pieces of news!

Midtown Mall will allow Front Porch Mentors to remain in our current office month to month while we plan our future.

City of Oshawa Planning has also confirmed that we can move into a larger unit or expand outward from our current office within the mall without losing our existing zoning protection.

Right now, growing within Midtown Mall looks like our safest and most realistic option.

🏠 We can remain in central Oshawa
🚌 We can stay accessible by walking and public transit
♿ We can continue supporting people with mobility barriers
💜 Clients and visitors will still know where to find us

Our current office is only about 600 square feet. We need more room for private peer support, client request bags, pantry items, clothing, hygiene products, volunteers and storage.

But a bigger space also means higher rent.

Although expansion may now be possible, we do not feel comfortable giving our approval until Front Porch Mentors is more financially secure.

We will not agree to a larger space until we know we can consistently afford the higher rent without putting the organization into debt or risking the services we already provide.

I am honored to have been invited to attend and participate as a candidate for Regional and City Councillor for Ward 4.

It has been encouraging to have open dialogue with other candidates this election cycle.

It shows a willingness to work together for our Ward and City during the next term of office.

It shows that candidates have an open mind and collaborative approach to problem solving and a genuine interest in positive change in Oshawa.

Thank you Theresa Grant for Ward 4. Looking forward to meeting more local residents and voters to hear your ideas on a better Ward 4 and City of Oshawa.

Today I updated the photo on my Davis Pledge page of my website.

I finally had the opportunity to stop in to the Biltmore Theatre and drop off a little something we picked up on a vacation earlier this year.

It was one of those items that just spoke to us (Murielle and I) as soon as we saw it.

Some of you know that I spent a lot of time at the Biltmore Theatre, volunteering as the Director of Communications. It was a relationship built on trust and and comittment with Julius Kedvessey when he purchased the historic venue.

Julius was not only a great friend and mentor, but he was a true visionary. A unique individual who is sadly missed.

I retired from my position at the Biltmore Theatre more than 4 years ago, when I first ran for Regional and City Councillor, Ward 4, because I didn't want any political backlash to affect their growing business.

I made a pledge to Julius Kedvessy to help open the Biltmore Theatre, and when he suddenly passed away, that commitment lived on.

I look forward to seeing the Julius sign near the Biltmore Lounge bar on the mezzanine. It will always remind us that Julius is always in the house, watching over us, and beaming with pride of the legacy his family has created.

Front Porch Mentors; Life Coaching & Peer Support Services operates out of a leased space at Midtown Mall, with absolutely no public funding.

Services offered are much more than just clothes and occasional snacks.

The Mentorship program is an important part of their work and helps to build lasting relationships among clients, hope and guidance, and a positive outlook to each day.

As FPM searches for a new, larger space, they are being limited due to the City's recent by-law restricting social service entities from locating within 800 meters of another entitiy.

You might be surprised to know how many entities exist in Oshawa and where they are located!

After reaching out to all of the mayoral candidates, only two have responded so far to her email.

Just 2.

None of the incumbents have responded. NONE.

This by-law is currently in an appeal process at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) that considers zoning by-laws.

Ask yourself, why are none of the incumbent councillors running for Mayor willing to respond?

With concerns over property taxes being the number 1 issue, it is imperative that you vote for the future of Oshawa.

Someone has far too much time on their hands...
but it isn't me.

I very much appreciate receiving emails and questions.
I try hard to respond in a timely manner and with enough detail to effectively answer.

Occasionally those emails are filtered to spam and might go a little longer before I respond.

Those anonymous emails can't be responded to, but I do read them as well. Some times they are acknowledged in a social media post or a blog post.

I appear to have two 'Mad Tom' style antagonists that are using anonymous email servers to send insults. That's ok, it comes with the territory and provides some comic relief at times.

But this past week, someone has taken an even bigger step of anonymous interference. A 'John Doe' has used my name and published election email address to sign me up for multiple spam programs. Initially it was about 100 spam emails in the first day.

But, joke's on you! About 40% required me to 'confirm' my subscription, and by not confirming, your efforts were defeated in less time than it took you to sign me up!
Another 50% were a simple 2 click process to unsubscribe and some of those unsubscribed me from multiple lists, again, in less time than it took you to sign me up!

The other 10% are more interesting....

I'm glad you have requested all those quotes for life insurance policies on my behalf, it means you are looking after my best interests, just like I plan to do for Ward 4 residents and voters.

But advertising non-existent jobs under my name is really low-class. It's actually a fraudulent activity, and that website will be addressing it according to their terms and services.

Like every candidate in the upcoming election, I have put my name and details out there publicly, but you hide behind anonymity and fake profiles, in an attempt to make it difficult for me to run a successful campaign.

A campaign that you aren't willing to run yourself.

Your insults and lies really don't bother me, they just show how low some people will go to maintain the status quo. A status quo that hasn't been working in resident's favour for a long time. It's not surprising that you don't want to admit that you are part of the problem.

So, to anyone who has sent an email that I didn't respond to, please be patient, or send me another in case it got caught up in the spam filters or mass deletions.

And to all those 'sending their love', thank you for the interest in my campaign and the opportunity to make real, meaningful change in Oshawa.
