Interesting in donating? Your financial contribution is essential to our continuing the critical support services for abused women and their children in the Orillia area. Your gift helps abused women and children receive counselling, crisis intervention, and safe refuge while enabling them to make the difficult transition from abuse to independence. To make up the cost of daily shelter and support for each woman and child, we must rely on a generous community. Donate at https://greenhavenshelter.com/contribute/

Take Back the Night, hosted through Athena’s Counselling & Advocacy Centre, is a protest and rally that demands an end to sexual assault and gender-based violence by connecting with the community and by marching through the streets of downtown Barrie to make clear that this ongoing crisis of violence is unacceptable.

The event will begin at 6pm at the Rotunda in Barrie City Hall, followed by speeches at 6:30 and a march at 7pm.

“Why didn’t she just leave?” is the wrong question.

Leaving can be the most dangerous time, and barriers may include housing, money, children, transportation, immigration status, isolation or fear. A better response is: “I believe you. How can I support you?”

Listen without pushing. Respect her choices. Offer information, not instructions.

Save this post so the words are there if someone reaches out.

A ride can be the difference between missing an appointment and making it there. It can be the difference of youth having a reliable way to school or missing school.

Green Haven provides an unlimited monthly Orillia Bus Connect card to clients who do not have access to transportation. Each card is valued at $30 and helps remove a barrier to appointments, housing, employment and community support.

You can help cover one month of rides through the link in our bio.

🏡 Can you help Green Haven find a shed?

We have several outdoor items currently being stored in our basement, where they take up valuable space that could be used to better organize donations and supplies.

An outdoor shed would allow us to store these items safely and appropriately.

We are looking for a new or gently used, secure and weather-resistant shed that meets the following requirements:
📏 Maximum size: 6 feet wide × 8 feet long
🚪 Door on the 6-foot-wide side preferred
🛠️ Delivery and assembly support would be greatly appreciated

An alternative door configuration may also work, depending on the shed’s exact design and accessibility.

If you or a local business may be able to help, please send us a message or email [email protected] with a photo and the exact dimensions before arranging delivery.

Even if you cannot donate, sharing this post could help us find the right community partner! 💚

Violence prevention is not one conversation or one campaign. It is what we practice every day.

It looks like teaching consent, challenging harmful jokes, believing survivors, modelling healthy relationships and making room for people to ask for help without judgment.

Which of these can you carry into your home, workplace or community this week?

Back-to-school season brings fuller calendars, busier mornings, and added expenses for families. A donation of school snacks or pantry staples can help create one less worry for women and children supported by Green Haven. 💚

When you are shopping the back-to-school sales, consider adding an extra box of snacks, crackers, canned fruit, pasta, rice, tuna, or another everyday staple to your cart for Green Haven.

To arrange a donation, please contact [email protected].
