Celebrate, experience and learn together!

Throughout June, communities across Ontario host events that celebrate Indigenous cultures and traditions.

From Pow Wows to community gatherings, these events offer opportunities to:

• Learn and listen
• Experience traditional and contemporary expressions of culture
• Support Indigenous artists, performers and businesses

Taking part—whether in person or online—is a meaningful way to recognize National Indigenous History Month.

Celebration is about connection, learning and showing respect.

Forest succession is a never-ending process 🌳

Severe storm events and invasive species have changed our forests canopy in recent years. With additional sunlight on the forest floor, Maple seedlings are ready to take advantage and fill the gaps!

They have a long road ahead of them! Here are some ways you can support:

🏕️ When setting up your campsite ensure that all camping equipment is placed on the hard packed soil of your campsite.

🪵 Some campsites may have logs bordering them, these logs are used to mark the boundary of a campsite and camping equipment should not be set up outside of them.

🥾 Limit walking in the bush around your campsite as much as possible. There are lots of foot paths for campers to use!

Together we can support the next generation of forest here at Bass Lake!🌱

Today is International Day of Biological Diversity 🐛🌼

One of the ways we help protect biodiversity at Bass Lake is by removing invasive plants, like Garlic Mustard!

Why remove Garlic Mustard?
🧪 Garlic Mustard changes the soil chemistry where it grows, making the soil unsuitable for native plants like Trilliums and Yellow Trout Lily.
🌱 Garlic Mustard can quickly take over the understory of a forest, greatly impacting native plants, tree saplings and beneficial insects.

During your visit to Bass Lake you may see staff line-trimming and hand-pulling plants from the bush! We do our best to selectively remove invasive plants to give our forest the best chance to thrive!

If you are ever curious, feel free to ask a staff member what they are up to! We are happy to answer any questions you may have!

Thank you for supporting Bass Lake and the work we do to protect the park for future generations! 💙💚

Spring is such a magical time of year for Ontario Parks! 🌱

🪺 Birds are returning to their summer homes to breed and raise their young.

🌼 Spring flowers have bloomed, decorating the forest floor for only a short time.

🐸 The soothing sound of Spring Peepers fills the air in the evening.

During this time, we do our best to protect those that choose our parks as their home for nesting!

Some ways you can help us:
🚫 Respect signage or barricades posted by staff. This is how we help protect nesting areas during the spring to reduce stress to nesting animals.

🐕 Keep pets leashed and under your control during your visit. Pets are curious and the unexpected encounter could push a mother off her nest causing her to abandon it.

🚮 Place all garbage in a garbage can or dumpster.

📏 Give wildlife space. We encourage wildlife observation from a safe distance, especially during spring when mothers are travelling with their young.

Thank you for helping us protect the beauty of nature and the wildlife that call our parks home!

We hope you find some time to admire your favourite parks blooming this spring! 💙💚

Tomorrow is opening day at Bass Lake! 🎉

We hope you’re excited to get back out to your favourite parks for another wonderful camping season!

This season, Bass Lake Provincial Park is going paperless!

Here is what you need to know:
🌲 During this transition, park staff may still ask you to stop so we can verify your reservation. This helps us ensure we have parking spaces available.

🌲 Check in online. You will receive an email on the day of your trip to check in online. This allows you to confirm or update your licence plate and the names of all campsite occupants.

🌲 Carry a digital (saved to your device) or printed copy of your confirmation letter on you while in the park. This will be your permit.

🌲 There’s no need to display a permit on your vehicle dashboard or campsite post. Your licence plate will be used to verify your permit.

🌲 If your day use permit was obtained using your seasonal vehicle permit, remember to display your seasonal vehicle permit in clear view on your mirror/dashboard.

🌲 Have questions or need directions? Need to purchase firewood, ice, or an additional vehicle permit? Have last-minute changes to your vehicle licence plate or campsite occupant information? Stop in at the gate office and our friendly park staff will be happy to assist you.
