🚨 Dufferin County Fire Rating Updated to MODERATE 🚨

The current fire hazard rating across Dufferin County has been lowered to MODERATE.

Under a Moderate Fire Hazard Rating, conditions are still present that allow fires to start, but the risk of rapid spread is reduced compared to higher levels. Caution is still required when burning outdoors, and residents are reminded that fire safety remains important.

🔥 What MODERATE means for residents:
• Open-air burning may be permitted where allowed by your local municipality and burn permit conditions
• Fires should be kept small, controlled, and closely monitored at all times
• Wind and dry conditions can still cause fires to spread unexpectedly
• Fireworks and other high-risk activities should be used with caution and in accordance with local bylaws

🔥 Fire safety reminders:
• Never leave any fire unattended
• Keep water, a hose, or shovel nearby
• Ensure all fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area
• Properly dispose of smoking materials safely
• Be mindful of dry grass, brush, and surrounding vegetation

If you see a fire or have an emergency, call 911 immediately.

For questions about burning regulations or permits in your area, please contact your local fire department.

Let’s continue to be responsible and keep our community safe. 🚒🌲

❄️Did you leave your smoke and CO alarms in the camper over the winter?
Risks of Leaving Smoke Alarms in a Cold Camper:
🪫Battery Failure: Cold temperatures cause batteries to lose power and voltage, which often triggers the "low battery" chirp or kills the battery entirely.
🥶Condensation and Corrosion: As temperatures fluctuate, condensation can build up inside the device, causing corrosion on the circuit board or temporary malfunction of the sensors.
☠️Premature "Low Battery" Warning: Cold causes the battery's chemical reaction to slow down, which makes the detector believe the battery is dying.

🍳🔥 Grease Fire Safety: Know What To Do 🔥🍳

A small cooking fire can become a major emergency in seconds. If a grease fire starts in your kitchen:

❌ NEVER use water.
Water will cause the burning grease to explode outward, spreading flames and increasing the danger.

✅ Turn off the heat if it is safe to do so.

✅ Smother the flames.
Carefully place a lid or baking sheet over the pan and leave it in place until completely cool.

✅ Use baking soda.
Small grease fires can sometimes be extinguished with baking soda. Do not use flour, which can ignite.

❌ Never move a burning pan.
Carrying it can spread the fire and cause serious burns.

🚨 If the fire grows, spreads, or you are unsure if you can safely extinguish it:
GET OUT, STAY OUT, and CALL 911.

The best fire is the one that never starts:
✔ Stay in the kitchen while cooking
✔ Keep combustibles away from the stovetop
✔ Clean grease buildup regularly
✔ Keep a lid nearby when cooking with oils

Fire prevention starts with awareness.

🚨 Sometimes, We Just Know It's a Fire. 🚨

Yes, that's a lot of smoke! A quick response is everything. When Orangeville Fire Services, police, or paramedics are responding to an emergency, every second matters.

If you see emergency vehicles approaching with lights and sirens activated:
🚒 Move safely to the right and come to a complete stop
🚓 Give emergency vehicles the space they need to pass
🚑 Remain stopped until all responding vehicles have gone by
⚠️ Never follow closely behind or attempt to pass emergency vehicles

A safe response route helps first responders reach those who need help as quickly as possible.
