Our sincerest condolences to Chief Sparham’s family and the Headingley Fire Department.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Fire Chief John Sparham.

Our department is grieving the loss of a respected leader, mentor, and friend who dedicated himself to serving our community through both our volunteer fire department and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

We extend our deepest condolences to Chief Sparham’s family, friends, crews, and colleagues during this difficult time. We ask that you keep them, and our department members, in your thoughts as we mourn this tremendous loss.

Chief Sparham’s service and dedication will not be forgotten.

Information regarding memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared as it becomes available and with the family’s consent.

We are proud to have worked alongside these two incredible paramedics and many others. Thank you for all that you do!

We are proud to have worked alongside these two incredible paramedics and many others. Thank you for all that you do!

We're recognizing paramedics who continue to make a difference through their care, compassion, and dedication.

Today, we're highlighting Jodi Woychyshyn and Amanda Cornish, whose nomination reflected the strong relationships, professionalism, and leadership they bring to those around them.

Thank you both for the care and support you continue to provide every day

This past week was National Telecommunicators week, and the Onanole Fire Department would like to extend its appreciation to Brandon 911 comms center, Brandon MTCC, and the RCMP comms center for their vital work. They serve as the initial point of contact in emergency situations and dispatch the necessary agencies, consistently responding to every call with a calm, compassionate, and professional demeanor.

They are also the calm voice behind the radio, providing us assistance with every call.

Thank you to all of the dispatchers!

Our sincerest condolences to Hugh’s family, friends and the Flin Flon Fire department. RIP

The City of Flin Flon is deeply saddened to learn of Hugh “Crampton” Devlin’s passing this afternoon, March 27, 2026.

Hugh, who went by “Crampton” among those who knew him, joined the Flin Flon Fire Department in 1979 and kept our community safe with our team for 47 years. He was the longest-serving firefighter with the department, and he was honoured as a leader and a mentor.

Hugh was instrumental in protecting our community from wildfires last summer, and we are grateful for the decades of experience that he imparted to those who follow in his footsteps.

Hugh was deeply involved in our community, with a passion for golf and the Flin Flon Bombers, and he will be remembered as an outstanding role model for both the Flin Flon Fire Department and our city as a whole.

❄️ Put a Freeze on Winter Fires 🔥

🔴 Heating Equipment is the #1 Cause: December, January, and February are peak months for heating fires.

🔴 The "Three-Foot" Rule: Keep anything that can burn—curtains, furniture, blankets, paper—at least three feet (one metre) away from furnaces, wood stoves, and space heaters.

🔴 Space Heater Caution: Turn off portable heaters when leaving the room or going to bed, and never use an oven to heat your home.

🔴 Chimney Safety: Ensure chimneys are cleaned and inspected annually to remove creosote, a highly flammable substance.

🔴 Carbon Monoxide Awareness: Install and test carbon monoxide alarms. Ensure all fuel-burning equipment is properly vented to the outside.

🔴 Generator Safety: Never run a generator inside, including in a garage, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and fire hazards.

🔴 Exterior Maintenance: Keep dryer, furnace, and stove vents clear of snow and ice.
