πŸ“šβ€οΈ Celebrating 50 Years of the Old Perlican Public Library!

What a wonderful afternoon celebrating this milestone! πŸŽ‰πŸ“š

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate and to everyone who has supported the library throughout the past 50 years.

A very special thank you to our librarian, Cathy Hatch, and to all of our dedicated Library Board members for the time, care, and commitment they give to our library and our community. We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Riley Balsom MHA, for joining us and helping us mark this important occasion.

Most of all, thank you to our community β€” past and present β€” for making the library such a special part of Old Perlican for five decades. ❀️

Here’s to 50 years of books, learning, memories, friendships, and community β€” and to many more years ahead! πŸ₯‚πŸ“–

πŸ“šπŸ Local Author Spotlight: Richard Greene

This week, we're shining a spotlight on Richard Greene, an award-winning Canadian poet, editor, and biographer with deep Newfoundland roots.

Born in St. John's, Greene went on to study at Oxford and became a professor of English at the University of Toronto. His writing has earned international recognition, including the Governor General's Literary Award for Poetry for his collection Boxing the Compass.

His newest collection, Cannibal Rats, was published in March 2026 and brings together poems exploring history, memory, loss, mortality, injustice, and the places that shape us. The collection travels from the battlefields of the American Civil War to the storm-worn shores of Newfoundland, reflecting Greene's enduring connection to the province. πŸŒŠπŸ“–

If you're interested in discovering a Newfoundland-born writer whose work has reached readers far beyond our shores, Cannibal Rats is a wonderful place to start.

πŸ‘‰Check out Richard Greene's works on the NL Public Library Catalogue: https://catalogue.nlpl.ca/client/en_US/default/search/results?qu=richard+greene&te=ILS
