URGENT DRUG SUPPLY ALERT

A highly potent synthetic opioid called Cychlorphine has been detected through wastewater monitoring in Whitehorse. It has been linked to severe overdoses that can happen very quickly.

Cychlorphine may be difficult to detect through some drug-checking methods. Please take extra precautions:

• Do not use alone.
• Start with a smaller amount and go slowly.
• Carry naloxone and know how to use it.
• Avoid mixing substances.
• If using with someone else, stagger your use so someone is available to respond.
• Check in on family, friends and loved ones who use substances.

If someone is in medical distress related to substance use, call 911 immediately. Give naloxone if you have it and stay with the person until help arrives, even if their symptoms do not look like a typical opioid overdose.

VGFN offers free naloxone kits and training for Citizens. For information, contact Maria Francis at [email protected].

Drug test kits are also available at the VGFN Administration Office, Chief Zzeh Gittlit School and the Old Crow Health Centre.

Mahsi to those who keep Moccasin Mobile Outreach running in Whitehorse!!

CYFN is proud to recognize Moccasin Mobile Outreach (MMO) staff Laura Hoversland and Madison McKenna, who received the Yukon RCMP Commander’s Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service at the Yukon RCMP Awards Ceremony on May 29.

Laura and Madison led with compassion and a deep commitment to helping a youth through a difficult moment. This recognition speaks not only to their dedication, but to the importance of meeting people where they are, walking alongside them, and ensuring they feel supported and cared for.

Presented by the Commanding Officer Lindsay Ellis, the award recognizes individuals and organizations that make exceptional contributions to community safety and wellbeing.

A big Farewell and Mahsi Cho cookout took place in my little community of Old Crow yesterday for our RCMP Constable Pierre Wideman and his beautiful family before they head out to their new transfer.

Old Crow has a tradition of giving a heartfelt send off to the RCMP that serve our community and that’s what took place under blue skies and a hot sun!

The Wideman family touched all our lives with Pierre connecting with our young men, Anika cooking for our community and learning to sew from some of our professionals! Their 6 children will be missed everyday by all the kids who played for endless hours together ❤️.

Mahsi cho to all our volunteers who set up, cooked, baked and helped with clean up. You all are appreciated!!
