May 5 marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S) in Canada, also known as Red Dress Day. It is a day to honour and bring awareness to many Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit who have been subject to disproportionate violence in Canada.
To help bring awareness, we are highlighting one of the featured books from our Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People research guide: Highway of Tears.

"Examining the historically fraught social and cultural tensions between settlers and Indigenous peoples in the region, McDiarmid links these cases to others across Canada—now estimated to number up to 4,000—contextualizing them within a broader examination of the undervaluing of Indigenous lives in this country."

Please consider visiting our campus libraries to view displays that feature more books related to MMIWG2S.

Day of Pink 2026 invites you to explore ECHO—a theme that calls us to tune in to the voices of q***r and trans communities, past and present. These are the voices that dared to speak up, to love out loud, to resist, and to reshape the law. Their courage continues to echo through every right we hold, every story we tell, and every change still to come.

After years of censorship by Canada Customs, Little Sisters Book & Art Emporium won a historic Supreme Court case in 2000. It transformed q***r literature from "obscene" to essential, defending our right to access the stories that shape us.
