A Special Request in Support of Heaven's Wildlife Rehabilitation

Heaven's Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitation & Education Centre has been an incredible support to us and to countless injured and orphaned wild animals. We truly would be lost without the care, compassion, and dedication they provide every day.

Right now, they are overwhelmed, operating at full capacity, and have had to close intake temporarily. They urgently need our community's support.
We will be collecting donations of puppy kibble and canned chicken, to assist in feeding the many wildlife currently in their care. Financial contributions are also needed to help cover the costs of caring for the many animals in their care.

Update on the little raccoon from St. Thomas admitted a month ago with mange!

Her treatment is going very well! her skin has been healing and her fur has begun growing back in! She still has a ways to go but the progress this month has her feeling a lot better!

💚 A Huge Thank You to Beth at Pet Valu in Petrolia! 💚
We want to take a moment to say a very heartfelt THANK YOU to Beth at Pet Valu in Petrolia for helping Heaven’s Wildlife Rescue when we were in a bit of a bind and had completely run out of food.
Beth was kind enough to help us out, and we were able to go over and pick up the much-needed food for our wildlife. It was a huge help at exactly the right time, and we truly appreciated her generosity and willingness to help.
We had every intention of taking a picture when we picked everything up and sharing a thank-you post right away… but, well… wildlife rescue happened! 😂 Between getting everything home, putting it away, and taking care of all our little patients, we completely forgot.
By the time we remembered, most of the food had already been put to good use! 🦝❤️
So, no picture this time — just a very sincere THANK YOU, BETH!
Your kindness means so much to us, and more importantly, it means a lot to the animals in our care. We are incredibly grateful for businesses and people in our community who step up when we need a helping hand.

Update: the gull has flown off.

This Gull has a fishing hook and lure stuck in its beak. If you see this bird around and have the opportunity to catch it please catch it & contact me!

Use a towel, coat, blanket (or net) to drape over the bird and get it contained. It needs help!

Unfortunately, too often we get calls about birds stuck with fishing lines, lures and hooks but they are still able to fly and therefore, they are very difficult to catch.

If you see this bird and are able to catch this gull we are more than willing to help with removal of hook and provide treatment as needed.

HUGE SHOUTOUT to Pet Valu Lakeshore Rd Sarnia, Pet Valu Corunna, and Pet Valu Lambton Mall, Sarnia for their ongoing support of Heaven's Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitation & Education Centre!! The owners, their staff and their customers have been nothing short of fantastic over the years and we are so very grateful beyond words!!  This donation pick up was particularly moving as their timing could not have been more perfect as our shelves of puppy food and dog food were pretty much empty!! Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!! 🦊🐰🦇🪱🦨🦝🐿️❤️

Update on the little raccoon from St. Thomas.

This female juvenile raccoon was transferred to us from Itty Bitty Critters after being found in a garbage pail.

She unfortunately has mange. She has been given an oatmeal bath and started on medications to treat the mange as well as antibiotics to treat secondary infections. She’s also receiving fluid therapy and medication to relieve her discomfort.

Mange is a skin disease caused by tiny mites that burrow into the skin. The intense itching causes raccoons to scratch and chew at themselves constantly, leading to hair loss, open sores, and painful secondary skin infections.

Within the next 4-6 weeks she will start to heal, feel and look better!

🌿 Poor Air Quality Affects Wildlife Too 🌿

🔥Wildfire smoke has settled over Sarnia Lambton, and the poor air quality is affecting more than just people. Wildlife and our pets can also experience irritated eyes, coughing, difficulty breathing, and exhaustion when smoke levels are high.

Here are a few simple ways you can help keep wildlife and your own pets safe while the smoke lingers.

🏠 Keep Pets Indoors
Keep cats and dogs indoors as much as possible. Only take dogs outside for brief bathroom breaks and avoid long walks, running, or outdoor play until the air quality improves.

💧 Provide Fresh Water
Leave shallow bowls of fresh, clean water in a shaded area for birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and other wildlife. Adding a few stones gives bees and other small insects a safe place to land and climb out.

🤫 Give Wildlife Space
Avoid disturbing wildlife whenever possible. Loud yard work such as mowing the lawn or trimming trees may force animals to exert themselves when breathing is already more difficult. If it can wait a day or two, consider postponing it.

🚗 Drive With Extra Caution
Smoke can reduce visibility and disorient wildlife. Slow down on rural roads and near wooded areas, as animals may unexpectedly cross the road.

🚪 Check Enclosed Spaces
Before closing garage doors, sheds, or storage areas, take a quick look to make sure a bird or small mammal has not wandered inside looking for shelter.

🆘 When to Call for Help
If you find a wild animal that is collapsed, struggling to breathe, unable to stand, or unresponsive to your presence, it should be assessed by a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

Please text us at (519)466-6636 and contact other licensed wildlife rescues if you believe an animal needs assistance. We are short volunteers and answer as soon as we can.

For pet emergencies, contact your veterinarian immediately.
