🌡️ ☀️ Its very important to protect yourself, your family, and your pets by staying cool and hydrated on hot summer days.

💦You can cool off and access water-filling stations at our libraries and recreation centres. You can also visit one of our outdoor spray parks to help beat the heat.

Supernatural Sea Serpent of Protection – Kolten Khasaulus Grant – Lynn Creek

This yellow cedar sculpture, hand-carved by Kolten Khasaulus, depicts a three-headed sea serpent, a mythical being and the crest of the artist’s family that symbolizes spiritual, physical, mental and emotional protection. Installed on the wall of the Lynn Creek Community Recreation Centre, the work was carved from yellow cedar gifted to the artist from the Elaho Valley in Squamish, connecting the piece to both family lineage and the land itself.

During National Indigenous History Month, we’re highlighting Indigenous public art across the City of North Vancouver & North Vancouver District.

“These improvements were designed to address existing barriers for individuals with mobility disabilities and are part of a broader commitment to ensure safe, inclusive, and climate-resilient park infrastructure,” says Scott Sigston, Project Manager.

The District’s recent work at Whey-Ah-Wichen/Cates Park and Belhouse Park reflect this commitment. The new accessible picnic shelter at Whey-Ah-Wichen/Cates Park was completed as part of the shoreline restoration and park improvement project undertaken in partnership with səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).

The recently opened Belhouse Park also includes several accessible features.

“The park design balances active play, inclusive access, and thoughtful use of the sloped site,” says Adam Vasilevich, Section Manager, Parks Planning, Design, and Development.
