“These improvements were designed to address existing barriers for individuals with mobility disabilities and are part of a broader commitment to ensure safe, inclusive, and climate-resilient park infrastructure,” says Scott Sigston, Project Manager.
The District’s recent work at Whey-Ah-Wichen/Cates Park and Belhouse Park reflect this commitment. The new accessible picnic shelter at Whey-Ah-Wichen/Cates Park was completed as part of the shoreline restoration and park improvement project undertaken in partnership with səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).
The recently opened Belhouse Park also includes several accessible features.
“The park design balances active play, inclusive access, and thoughtful use of the sloped site,” says Adam Vasilevich, Section Manager, Parks Planning, Design, and Development.
