Did you know that you could exchange your empties for a donation to our station?

All those bottles you find floating around in the harbour (or in your recycling bin!) give them a rinse and drop them off at your nearest Encorp Pacific (Canada) location.

Before you do that, be sure to download the nifty app and follow the instructions in this post to set RCMSAR Station 2 as your go-to donation preference!

We all know the importance of wearing a life jacket. But take it one step further, what do you know about PLBs and EPIRBs? (Personal locator beacon and Emergency position-indicating radio beacon).

A PLB can be attached to your PFD. Do you have a bigger vessel and go offshore? An EPIRB is what you want. Learn the ins and outs in this highly informative video from the The Qualified Captain and ACR Artex:

A huge THANK you to Mustang Survival for donating 15 kids PFDs for our Kids Don’t Float program! We stocked the Cates Park station and a brand new location at Burrard Civic Marina. We were also able to put a fresh batch up at the Royal Van Yacht Club. These donations are so important to us, and we are extremely grateful.

A team of Mustang staff came out to learn more about this program and about the gear we use on our boats. A terrific and eye-opening day for us all.

Our Bravo boat. Outfitted with a fresh drive unit. Why is this worthy of a post? Replacing anything on our boats often comes with large costs. We fundraise for this and we apply for grants. Another big line item is the actual instalment. And to keep this amount down we have an incredible (handy and skilled!) maintenance team who volunteer their time ON TOP of their SAR training and crew time.

Please join us in thanking this team. We wouldn’t be on the water without them!

❗️Attention to all local boaters: a new speedzone has been put in place around Cates Park. Keep a max safe speed of 5 knots within 250m from the boat launch. Let’s all play safely together as we’ve entered the busy boating season.

There are more speedzones in our area. Where are they all? Have a look at the Port of Vancouver Boaters’ Handbook. A fantastic resource for all those recreating and commercially operating on the waters in and around Vancouver.

Meet Kristina! She is the driving force behind the Kids Don’t Float loaner stations we support from RCMSAR 2 in and around Vancouver.

“I’m really passionate about the Kids Don’t Float program. The water has always been a place I love, and I want kids to grow up loving it too — with great memories and confidence. This is one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to help keep families safe on the water, especially when we’re lucky enough to be surrounded by it here on the North Shore.”

In and around Vancouver there are free loaner stations at Cates Park, Deep Cove Yacht Club, Burrard Yacht Club, RVYC in Coal Harbour and Jericho, and at West Vancouver Yacht Club.

We are thrilled to tell you that a brand new Kids Don’t Float loaner station has been added to the top of the Cates Park boat launch ramp at Whey-Ah-Wichen!

A tremendous shout out to the Port of Vancouver and District of North Vancouver and Tsleil-Waututh Nation for the support of this station.

Be like Gerhard, who doesn’t own his own PFD (just yet!) and borrow one to play safely on his friends boat, the dock and the beach.
