Spring season this year was full of connection, skill-building, and fun!

We’ve been working thoughtfully to design programs that help people with intellectual disabilities make friends, stay active, and build everyday skills.

Our goal is to make sure everyone in our community feels included and supported.

We loved hosting District of North Vancouver Councillor Jordan Back at IDS for a firsthand look at our facilities. It was the perfect opportunity to showcase our programs, connect with participants, and discuss our vision for a stronger North Shore. We appreciate dynamic local leaders who share our passion for this community, and we thank Councillor Back for taking the time to see our work in action.

Providing quality services which support the development, independence and empowerment of people with intellectual disabilities.

National AccessAbility Week (May 31 to June 6, 2026) celebrates the contributions of disabled people and promotes inclusion across Canada.

At IDS, accessibility means removing barriers and creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to thrive through person-centered programs, meaningful connections, and inclusive support services on the North Shore.

With the support of corporate and individual donors, we can keep opening doors, strengthening community, and ensuring everyone has the chance to participate fully.

We believe that retirement should be a time of continued growth, connection, and contributions, especially for seniors with intellectual disabilities.

IDS’s senior-focused programs support individuals as they transition into their later years by offering activities such as adaptive yoga, SJA dog therapy, and many others designed to build strength, improve balance, and reduce the risk of falls. We also provide crafts, literacy activities, and multisensory therapy to encourage creativity, support cognitive health, and promote lifelong learning.

In April, kicked things off with a fantastic interactive workshop, giving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience the joy of improv and creative movement. As Canada’s longest-running inclusive theatre company, they have been pioneering these collaborative spaces since 1985.

We’re keeping the momentum going in May with a new 7-week series that kicked off on Wednesday, May 6!

Try out theatre and acting with Kevin from Theatre Terrific. This engaging journey into creative expression is designed for individuals of all abilities to explore storytelling and movement in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Participants will develop creative play, teamwork, and confidence through the art of theatre.

When: Wednesdays, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Dates: May 6, 2026 – June 24, 2026
