Lionsview Seniors' Planning Society

Lionsview Seniors' Planning Society We are a strong voice for North Shore seniors, supporting seniors' engagement in community. We can trace our roots back to the mid 1980’s.

In 2016, Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society celebrated 25 years of service to our community. We have come a long way in the last two and a half decades, but we have remained true to our goal of being a strong voice for seniors on the North Shore. In September of 1989 a group of service providers came together to test the idea of coordinated planning for seniors’ services on the North Shore. From

this initiative came the North Shore Seniors Health Initiative which produced an action plan to address specific issues in the areas of housing, transportation, preventive health, social services and community and residential care. In April 1989, the Committee hired staff to develop and test a model for planning community services with seniors themselves playing a leading role. In 1991, the Committee formed itself into a non-profit society, Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society. The Society hired an executive director and since then we have grown and evolved. Our most recent initiatives include our Seniors Today survey of North Shore seniors (2011), an Age-friendly Acting for a Better Tomorrow project (2012) and our shaping the North Shore Communities project in 2013, each based on the eight components of the World Health organization’s Age-friendly framework. Throughout our history we have remained true to our principle of involving seniors and senior service providers in all matters that affect the quality of our lives.

June 15TH is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 💜

For the last 20 years, this has been a day to acknowledge the mistreatment of elders and raise our voices against it.

This year's theme, "Be Bold: Age with Attitude," is a powerful reminder of the strength, wisdom, and resilience of older adults, celebrating their right to live free from abuse and discrimination.

Join us and wear purple today to show your support and help shine a light on the importance of aging with dignity.

Today, we also wanted to highlight BC CRNs and Seniors First BC for their ever-important advocacy and support. (read below)

BC Community Response Networks:
As a provincial non-profit, BC CRNs is dedicated to fostering safe, inclusive communities where vulnerable adults are valued and protected. Through active coordination, advocacy, education, collaboration, and relationship building, BC CRNs work to support local Community Response Networks across BC to create awareness and prevention of adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect.

Visit BC CRNs through their website or Facebook to learn more about their programs and resources.

Seniors First BC:
The Seniors Abuse and Information Line (SAIL) is a confidential information line for older adults and those who care about them to speak to a professional intake worker about abuse, mistreatment, and any issues that impact the health and well-being of older adults in BC.

As AccessAbility Week (May 29–June 6) comes to a close, we want to recognize the dedicated work of our Seniors Action Table (SAT).

This passionate group of older adults advocates for greater accessibility in our community and works to make the City of North Vancouver more age- and dementia-friendly. Their efforts have included supporting bench initiatives, advocating for more accessible public and community transportation options, and maintaining ongoing connections with city planners to help ensure seniors' voices are heard.

If you or someone you know is interested in making our community more accessible and inclusive, come and join a SAT meeting!
