Busy few days.... a number of structure fires of our own and our mutual aid partners. Some motor vehicle collisions and some serious medical calls tossed in to keep us moving. The fall training schedule will be starting soon and we've got some heavy, weekend long training courses on the calendar as well. If you have the time for us, we've had one locker recently open up. You show us the commitment, we provide everything else. Applications are at our station.

Came up in memories today. From 2011, a group of instructors at the former fire school. Some of these fine folks are still in the game, but sadly, some are no longer with us.... I enjoyed my time there.

At 06:47 North Sydney Fire & Rescue as well as mutual aid partners, Sydney Mines Fire and Florence Fire were paged to a structure fire on Purves St. Multiple calls confirmed a working fire before firefighters arrived and added the possibly of persons trapped. Engine 5 arrived first with a crew of six and confirmed a 2.5 story home with heavy fire showing on all levels. Sydney MInes firefighters nabbed the hydrant for Engine 5 while crews pulled 150 feet to the front door and a 200 ft to the basement walkout in the rear. Crews got a quick handle on the bulk of the fire but had to spend some time chasing fire all the way to the attic. Searchers found no persons but did save some reptiles that resided in the basement. Cape Breton Regional Fire Air Truck topped off the SCBA cylinders and crews wrapped up about 10:30. The scene was secured pending further investigation by the Fire Marshalls Office, Regional Police and the Fire Deparatment

The breakfast table is a great place to be after a working fire. Fellowship is always cemented over a meal. Job well done.!

Sunday night was hectic, to say the least. Numerous calls for flood situations, including one to our own station, kept our folks busy. Rain waters temporarily overwhelmed the drainage system and left water with no where to go. Once the downpour stopped, levels quickly returned to normal, but it made for a few anxious moments. One young lad even thought he may be able to take a swim, but it ultimately proved unsuccessful.

One of our most favourite causes is the Atlantic Burn Camp. Friday night is carnival night that ends with the most awesome fireworks show. Some of our folks that took part. Kayla Kirkwood, Kyleigh Wall, Elizabeth MacDonald, Claire H***e, Billy MacLean, Kyesha Haggett, Brandon Halamoutis and hiding in the back, Mike Warren and Kevin Pentecost
